Hi

Just back from a disastrous trip to Blue Anchor near Minehead where the wind has managed to pull our awning off our Cabanon Mistral Trailer Tent and has caused four teeth to come adrift - also we have three poles which are very damaged...

First question - does anyone know if I can get the awning repaired in the Hampshire Area any idea of cost

Second - does anyone know where I can get replacement poles -again any idea of cost?

Third - does anyone know if the wind was particularly strong on the 29th/30th May - Im trying to decide if the weather was to blame or if we have a faulty trailer tent.

As you can see we had an awful time especially as all the caravan dwellers sat in their vans and watched my husband, myself and nine year old daughter struggle for 2 hours hoping that someone would help us - but they did not - shame on them!

Anyway hope that you guys can help us out!

Many thanks

Bad luck. We had a similar incident on our first outing of the year at Easter in our Conway, while we were pegging down the awning a freak gust whipped it up and over the main body, one of the poles was shattered at the Y section and we have been unable to find a replacement.

We took it out last week and managed by tie wrapping a piece of metal across the break, but it is sad, we have had it three years with not so much as a tear up to now. We had thought to try a small metal working company to see if they could whip us up a new one.

Hi debs i believe you were pitched directly in front of my caravan alongside the road?? if i remember correctly you were the only one there with a TT( brown cream?). The wind was particuarly strong that weekend as my awning took a beating but that was on the Friday after that it seemed to die down.

I believe there is somewhere on the road into weston s mare that repairs tt but cant remember the name of it now!!!!

Hi chris

Thanks for the message our TT is green and cream but you are right about the pitch - so you are excused LOL - Ive calmed down now! One family actually stopped their car and watched us for 3 or 4 minutes then drove off!!

The only thing Im thinking now is have we got a faulty unit as i am sure it should of withstood the winds - weve only used it 6 or 7 times and it was in mint condition.

Anyway thanks

Debbie

i should imagine it should have withstood those winds my old  tt withstood a battering it was a 1980s reaclet jade and it went through some pretty rough weather in brean last year and i never had any problems with it.I did find tho that using a storm strap also prevented it from taking off but i only used that on my last trip last year before selling my tt

and thanks for excusing me ... and i do apologise if my 3 kids with their arguing through the night annoyed you and the baby deciding to beep the horn on the blue piccasso right behind your beds

what did you think of blue anchor overall?

Chris

Believe me we didnt hear a thing Monday night - we were all so exhausted!

Thought Blue Anchor was okay but wouldnt recommend it or go again because of the wind and the lack of shelter from the sea - also would prefer to not to be pitched by a public car park that is right alongside the pitch.  Amenities were clean, and swimming pool was great - never been to a site where the shop closes at 5pm ish especially 1/2 term week.

We normally go to Newlands at Charmouth or Ulwell at Swanage and will probably revert to the south coast (if we ever go again that is). My OH insists on staying near the sea so I suppose a stiff sea breeze should always be expected but we have only worried about rain before.

Although i am toying with selling the TT and just reverting to a tent.

Have you been to Blue Anchor before? Where are your favourite sites?

debs that was the first time i have ever been to blue anchor i agree the shop closing that early was a bit daft where else were you supposed to get a bottle from when the beer runs out????? other problem i found as stated in my review is that the park was only open when someone felt lie opening it........we usually go to napps / big meadow in illfracombe the missus really likes combe martin beach and i think a lot of the sites down there are more favourable in my opinion off tt.'ers as i found a lot of the sites that way to be well sheltered and level so you didnt have to much "ship rocking " through the night....dont sell the tt you will find yourself missing out on the space in the awning why not move up to a caravan?
