How do Trailer tents fare when it is very windy? I know someone on a previous thread says they are a pain. Are they the same as a conventional tent or worse?
first ime been away in a TT last bank holiday - gale force winds and rain - was worried cos the frame was rattling a bit but as per prev replies , guy ropes and plenty of pegs did the trick. no problems - checked in morning and nothing out of place and yes we were still in the same field we pitch ed in the night before !!!
:-)... bit of pain whacking loads of pegs in but better safe than sorry.
I`ve been out in some fierce storms in the old Conway Camargue and it stood up to everything without so much as a pulled guyline. In one particularly violent storm down in the Loire a few years back tents were being flattened.
You do have to pitch them well, be prepared to double peg if necessary and also to invest in some decent pegs. It`s difficult to get the awning actiually pitched in very high winds as well. But you could say that for the canvas of any tent.
The only difference we noticed from a frame tent was that when the wind blew the beds moved, wheras in the tent the frame moved slightly but of course that ground didnt. You soon get used to it. I always took comfort from the cat that the canvas was attached to a heavy trailer so should be less likely to blow away.
Never had a problem and never worried about it. as mentioned above lots of pegs and guys to keep it all on the ground, mine creaks an awful lot in the wind but it is 25 years old so i don't mind to much and i have found that a bit of fiddling around solves most of it.
------------- You can't change the length of your life, but you can change the width and depth

We found that, as well; in very strong winds the beds did move a bit. Just keep checking the leg supports!
If you do get a conway join the other mad lot at the conway owners club and post any questions you have on there and we will be able to help. How old is the Mirage? make sure that you see how it is put up then have a go yourself, also see if the canvas has not got any black marks on it, and find out if it has been reproofed lately or in the last year, and check all running gear, brakes if fitted, wheels for cracking on edges and sides. If all this is ok then start at your lowest price then go to your highest, bit like an auction start low then go up. Anyway good luck. Most likley i have missed something out but someone on here will say so.
