I am looking to purchase either a Pathfinder or Crusader (probably 02/03 model) and would like to know what the extra costs could be e.g. insurance, servicing, breakdown cover.
We've got a '97 Cardinal - insurance will vary depending on how much equipment you have, how it's secured etc (I believe it's normal for them to insist on a hitch lock when parked, and a wheel clamp as well will reduce the excess if it is stolen) for our I think the insurance is about £110.
Breakdown cover is included on our car breakdown policy.
Lisa been out in that pathfinder yet? still waiting on your gallery update so i can have a nossy, as we are hoping to sell our sterling and upgrade to a pathfinder in the coming seasons.
We pay £160 insurance for a 2003 pathfinder ( through Pennine owners with Richard Keen) plus £200 to store. Servicing is around a £100 but we haven't had it done every year. She went in in Feb 05 and we'll book her in again this winter. To be honest its not much cheaper than our caravan was but the car uses a lot less petrol.
------------- Good friends are hard to find, difficult to leave and impossible to forget.
You couldn't make a better choice in terms of folding camper than either of the ones you have mentioned. The FC costs about the same in terms of insurance and storage and servicing as a caravan, Jan is quite right the increase only kicks in with travelling with a caravan. The FC is only charged for at the same rate as cars on the French motorways whereas caravanners pay a premium. The fuel costs also increase with towing and you will pay the same as a caravanner for crossing the Channel.

Been out twice, 2 nights in Derby and 5 in Norfolk. Still haven't taken any pictures, but will make sure I do this weekend and I'll put them on here.
