I see from some of the archived Conway catalogues that there was a sun canopy made to fit the Camargue. Now, I realise it`s too much to hope that someone out there has one lying around that they would be willing to sell me (Please email me though if you do!) but I do have a question. How do they fit on to the front of the awning? Do the horizontal canopy poles replace the short poles for the stub awning? And if so, how does the sun canopy also fit directly into the cabin for short stops? I sort of recall that the two sections have different pole connections. Or does the sun canopy utilise the main awning poles when connected directly to the cabin?

Would a sun canopy for a 91 royale do?

I don`t know, to be honest. The front of a Royale is flat, isn`t it? If you look on my profile pix you`ll see that the Camargue has what the call a "stub canopy". It`s supported by three short poles that each fit into  projections of the main awning poles. I`m presuming (could be well wrong though!) that the Camargue awning poles fit into the same projections, if that makes sense.

So how does the Royale sun canopy fit on? And (rude question coming up) why do you want to get rid of your sun canopy, if you still use the tt?

Edit...I just found a picture of a Royale. The sun canopy zips onto the main awning, doesn`t it? If so, no good for the Camargue, sorry.

Yeah, it does zip on. Sorry I can't help. By way of explanation our Royale just died (long story) and we have bought a Sunncamp. Am hoping I may be able to sell the sun canopy and awning extention.

Hi

I bought a univeral sun canopy from TVS recently and it is also in the Burgundy/Creme colours of our Camargue.

I haven't put it up yet - anyone who knows better please advise  but I think the canopy goes on top of the Camargue's small stub canopy and ties onto the eyelets on the corners of the tent.

There is an extendable / adjustable pole in the centre of the canopy that hooks under the stub canopy onto the main frame - this is the system that Cabanon owners are familiar with.

I too attempted to find an original second hand canopy but gave up. I even considered buying another Camargue in cheap poor condition just for the canopy !

The TVS canopy isn't cheap but I was pleased to find one in matching colours and with canvas and poles in perfect condition.

I hope this helps

All the best

Hi Mark,

That`s useful to know, thanks. I was looking at these eyelets the last time I had the Camargue up and wondering if that was what they were for. Any chance of a pix when you next use it? I`d be interested to see the pole assembly too...is there a complete front arch?

I`ve also thought about buying a second Camargue just for the sun canopy, btw!

Hi Val

We'll be off to France in August and I'll gets some photos for you.

Yes there is a front arch that comes in 3 pieces, the central extendable pole then fits between the center of the arch and the main frame of the tent.

Cheers

Hi again

Eventually managed to put a photo of the Camargue in my gallery.

The Sun Canopy needed tweaking to get it just right but it was an essential addition in both rain and sunshine. The colours also matched the tent in spite of the 17 year difference between the new canopy and the original canvas on the tent.

Cheers

Mark

Hi Mark,

Thanks for remembering about the picture! The canopy looks fantastic...as if it were the original and made for the `89 Camargue.And it gives you an incredible amount of extra space, by the looks of it.

Yup, the picture makes up my mine...I`ll have to grip my teeth and buy one of these as my next big camping purchase. As you say, not cheap..but we`ll be going to France for a month next summer, and there`s never enough shade.

Thanks again.
