Is there a catch with the Sunncamp as they seem to be so much cheaper than other trailer tents. I was going to buy a Trigano Chantilly, but after seeing how much I could save, I am tempted to buy a Sunncamp. However, the dealers have turned their noses up at them - ,maybe wanting to sell me something dearer!
I think they are the budget range of TT's but nonetheless extremely popular, I cannot comment on the quality in comparison as I have never used one although some of the colour schemes did put me of. I have a Chantilly (see gallery) which is the second one I have owned, I purchased this second hand and there are some bargains to be had out there, if you look around you could end up with last years model for about £1000 less, great bargain.
I'm sure some Sunncamp owners will be along shortly to tell you how pleased they are with theres and rightly so. I wouldn't discount them solely because they are the budget TT's but personnally I would compare both and decide which one I felt offered the best value for money and that is not necessary the most expensive.
One small point, if the dealers are turning there noses up at them, then why are they selling them?
we had a conway a few years ago, the sunncamp look very similar, the cooker / sink unit is the same.i have seen the sunncamps on sites and look very good for the money.
We have a sunncamp 250 which is a 1997, its robust and hardwearing. Sadly we are selling it now (check out ebay) but it has years and years left in it and the colours arent that garish!
Dealers like to sell you the product with the largest profit margin for themselves if at all possible!! Of course reputable dealer will want to sell you a good product but they are essentially in business out to make the biggest profit. It is quite possible that there is a more favourable profit margin for themselves in the other brands.
Take anything they say with a 'pinch of salt' as the saying goes.
We own a millenium suncamp 2000 folding camper, very very similar to a pennine sterling. Having owned a pennine apollo (too small sold it) we can say the suncamp is not as well built as the pennine, canvas quality is not the same. The colours are also a bit.........erm........cheerful!!!
value for money is excellant. if you can live with the colours and slightly lower quality canvas, there is a lot of money to be saved.
We have a 2004 400se bought second hand. The TT itself is great value and in comparison to other makes there does not seem to be much difference in the build quality although the canvas is slightly thinner than others. The colours schemes of later models are more subdued (400 series) nice pale cream and blue but bright yellow inners, great for distribution of light!!
One problem we have encountered is that of spares and their purchase. Our local stockist does not hold any sunncamp spares, on investigation it appears the company are slow at processing orders. Problem is solved in the fact that any other make of spares will work, thank goodness.
The upshot is if you are on a limited budget they are a great starting point.
We have just sold our sunncamo 400se but we brought it brand new and were very pleased. Our Friend's had brought a Jamet but it had cost them 1300 more then we paid brand new. Our first outing together he spent trying to find fault with our's in comparison to his! The only thing he could say was the canvas was not as thick. He was very impressed and we were too, as we had saved £1300 compared to him. If you are going to use it for weeks & weeks every year then buy the best you can afford, if it is going to be stored for 10-11 mths of the year then we decided the sunncamp would be fine. It is very very spacious, the colours were blue/creams etc and we were very happy with it. No leaks, light to tow and plenty of room!
We bought a 400se not long ago been away once sofar but it is excellent. Plenty of room and if it is your first time why pay a fortune for something that isn't much better only to find out you don't like it.
Used to have a 350se trailer tent and was fantastic. Just sold for caravan now.

How do I know how much any trailer tent is worth? I don't suppose there is some directory (like those for used cars) which can give me an idea of how much I'll need to part with? Or is it a question of experience and personal opinion?
Having missed out on a couple of trailer tents/ folding campers locally, I'm beginning to wonder if I have been a bit unrealistic about how much I will need to spend. (I knew where I was with dome tents, you see )
