Hi
Can anyone help.
My beloved 1991 Pennine Pullman has developed a water damaged door ie bottom half of door has gone soft. Does anyone know of a way of repairing the door or a restorer or supplier of a new door. I have also just tore my travel cover packing up this morning can you get them anywhere other than Pennine group. Thanks in advance.

Hi

If its the entrance door to the folding camper you are talking about then it can be repaired asI have done one before myself.

If its the same as the one I did then you should have metal strip which goes around the outside of the door, this needs to be removed first by removing the small screws on the edge. Then you need to remove all fixings on the door taking note of measurements so you know where they go back. You finally need to remove the outer metal sheet from your old door, this can take some time as you need to make sure you dont bend it and also all the old glue/wood has been removed.

To make your new door cut a piece of marine plywood to same diemensions of your old rotten door and then restick the outer metal sheet back onto new plywood. To cover the inside I used the sticky back patterned plastic you can buy, I think its called fablon?

All you need to do to finish is put back on the door catches/ hinges etc and rescrew the outer metal strip back on, I smeared clear silicon around the edges of the plywood first to give it a waterseal and also help the metal strip stay on.

Hope this helps

Adam

Thanks Adam
Do you need a special glue to stick the metal sheet on or will silicon do the job.

Hi again

I used 'No-Nails' which is ideal. The catch and other fittings help to hold the sheet in place as you have to screw the fixings through the sheet into the new plywood.

I had the same problem and followed similar advice - with a bit of care you have a more solid door than before.]

When you remove the door, check the panels either side of the door for any soft spots - I found a small area I had to patch, using plywood after removing the rotten area of board with care not to damage the aluminuim skin, soak area in wood preservative and then wood hardener before patching

Thanks for all your advice. I will tackle it but might wait untill the end of the season so it is not "off the road". Still got some camping to do.
