I've been told about campsites in france that are run by local authorities, can anyone one tell me more about them, how to find etc.

Hi there

We have stayed at one of these en route to Switzerland, in Chalons en Champagne. A clue is that they have 'Municipal' in their name! (Not sure f that's aleays the case though). It was fine - well run, good ameneties and very clean. A good comprehensive website for French campsites is 'www.campingfrance.com' - we found the Chalons site that way.

We stayed on a camping municipal in Cognac super site swimming pool snack bar very clean loo block with free showers washing up facilities washing machine etc all seperate pitches with shrubs on either side right by the river excellent.If you look back on the caravan and camping abroad site someone put a brochure name up for all the municipal sites in France sorry I can't remember what it was called
