we have just aquired our second hand 1998 conway challenger. its brilliant , and have just taken it out for a 3 night stop at our local site.  Our driveway is on a slope, and to get it under the front window, it needs a heavy push up the drive way.  what is the motorised  trolley that you can use?  and what do they cost ? I do believe they are very expensive.  is there any one there who has this problem ?

I think you probably mean a Mr Shifta, and I think it would probably do what you are asking very well - we have had one of these as our drive is on a slope and it did the pushing up bit and bringing back down safely very well.  These seem to turn over quite quickly - if you do a daily search on e-bay  you will see what I mean.  I think they're getting on for £1,000 new, but I tracked the prices for a few weeks before selling ours and they went from about £200 upwards.  As they can't be posted you would need to look for one within whatever distance you are prepared to travel.  If you just need it for what you describe above a Mark 1 would probably do the job and be much cheaper than a Mark 2 or 3.  Hope this helps.

many thanks fourtones, very kind of you to reply. We are both a couple of cocoa slurpers in our early 60!s, and this Mr Shifter will help out a great deal. We have never heard of that name before, so youve been agreat help.  I just feel that the effort needed for pushing the camper up our drive is quite unecessary. Camping is so relaxing, why spend time wearing your selves out, getting it in and out.  many many thanks for your quick reply. much apprecieated.   is there any one out there who wants to sell a Mr Shifta??????

If your drive is on a straight incline why not look at using an electric winch at a fraction of the cost.Look in the Towsure catalogue.

many thanks sooz + blood.  ive only been on this site for 2 days, so I am feeling my way around.   Advertizing is a good idea, when I find out how to do it. ha ha.

Blood - you said that an electric winch will do the job? and is much cheaper than a Mr. shifter.  How would this work. ?  Is it any simpler than  the shifter ?

I will also find out about the towsure catalogue you reccommended.

many many thanks

Certainly hope you do find what you're looking for Minnie - it must be quite a struggle for a couple of old crocks like you & Jimmy, he, he!

Hi minnie lane, I don't know much about winches, but I guess it depends on the exact positioning of the drive in relation to the house and whether there's a suitable spot to secure the winch - I suppose you could fix one just under the window?  I would think it would be much cheaper, but less flexible than a Mr Shifta.  I know people have offered advice on winches in other threads, if I can remember which I'll let you know.

Search for thread "moving the Crusader" there's some tips in there about winches - sorry, don't know how to do the link.

Minnie,

I have not used a winch but there has been earlier threads about this and for about £30 to £40 you can buy a winch plus attachments that fit the tow hitch.I would think that you would connect the cable of the winch to a secure post at the top of your drive and the winch connects to the tow hitch. You would operate by means of a control that has a length of cable connected to the winch so that you can walk along with your trailer as it pulls it up your drive, all you have to do is press the right button on the control. When you go camping you could all ways bung it in the camper, you never know when you might need it.

Mr shifta and the like would do the job better than a cheap winch  I'm sure but they are very expensive and I would imagine very heavy.

regards

Blood

hi blood + fourtones. thanks so much for the usefull info.  We do have a straight drive, no curves. But after reading info from you and others - I am considering any day now to invest in a hopefully, very cheap Mr. Shifter.

info much appreciated folks.  happy camping

cheers - min
