I'm thinking of upgrading our tent to a folding camper. The Conway Crusader looks really nice. I'm a bit struck by the luxury of a toilet and an oven (maybe I should just stay at home?!) I'd really appreciate any advice on folding campers, particularly the Conway Crusader.
Thanks

Hi Luvmiwine

Firstly i am selling it because we have enjoyed it so much we would love to continue in winter and fc not really practical for this  also my wife works at school so she gets all the holidays and would like to go away for six weeks in summer and she just thinks a caravan would be better for that. There is nothing wrong with the fc and if we dont sell it we will be happy to keep it just fancy a caravan, our idea was to buy fc see if we enjoyed hols in it and upgrade after couple of years but have enjoyed so much want to upgrade now.

I have been offered £6300 in trade in but i  have been told i can get £500 off with no trade in so if intrested make me an offer more than £5800 this fc new will cost over £7500 and i also have some extras.

I am based in dumfries which is south scotland 20 miles from gretna.

hope this has helped and let me know what you think.

Am posting over the issue of integrated loos in a folding camper.  Have never been sure what the advantages are ... someone going to come along and convince me otherwise??

A porta potti can be sited where you want.. in its own green tent, in the awning, or if you are on your own in the main tent area.  This means it is more flexible.  Plus being a separate unit I just feel it is probably easier to clean than a fixed unit.  Then there is the issue of having your loo bang next to your cooking area and the potential for 'other aromas' particulary if you fully use the facility.

Advantage is we don't need to put the awning up. We don't fully use the facility so no aromas there. The only chemical smell is the "pink" which smells like an air-freshner anyway. A quick wipedown before we fold up and it's as good as new

Why does it alway rain when I go camping?

All campers are built for the same purpose, camping out doors providing you with a dry, warm and comfotable environment. If you look at a particular camper and get that buzz then that is the one for you.

As regards toilets I spent one season using a porta-Loo and it was a right pain having to move it about all the time.My wife didn't want to go out side in the middle of the night to use the toilet so I had to put it in the door way of the camper(sterling)and it was quite heavy. Then when I packed it up the blue liquid had leaked all over the carpet. We have a pathfinder, same layout as crusader with built in toilet and life is so much easier. Before you ask yes I did empty the pota loo before packing away.

Thanks for all your comments.
I still like the idea of an inside loo rather than in the awning. Mainly for the kids during the night.

Tentpegjenny,I admire your enthusiasm for dandy and you are right they are better suited for winter than canvass campers. The point I was trying to make is all campers will provide a good shelter from the elements and if people want to go camping in the winter months then that should be a consideration but not every one likes camping in the winter when it gets dark at 4pm.

I like canvas because of the smell and atmosphere it gives you, you still have that feeling you are in a tent but a very comfy one.(hope that doesn't sound strange)

Canvass campers do not have a warning on them " do not use in wet conditions"

Regards

Blood

Yes I like canvas too for the same reason and can understand where you are coming from.... The truth is this, if it had not been for the drying out issue would have probably gone for something similar to a Pennine. When I bought the Dandy I was worried I had made a mistake.  However hand on heart having had a Dandy there is no way I would go to a pennine or Conway.

You know how it is there is nobody as fervent as a convert.... (children complaining I am becoming an anorak).

I cannot say the same for the Cobb which quite frankly is okay but not as brilliant as I hoped.

tentpj,

I think your kids are onto something there.I can't debate about a Cobb because I don't know what it is.
