Need help, just returned from 2 week break in the Yorkshire Moors, Dales and Northumberland National Park. Weather was very varied and as such in a hasty decamp during a thunderstorm we managed to fracture the central extending hoop of our 96 Pennine Sterling by closing the frame down in the wrong sequence. Would appreciate any ideas on how I go about getting a replacement section, has anyone had to replace any section of an FC frame?
Did something similar luckily had an old piece of pipe same diameter as hoop. i just cut out broken piece and riveted new pipe in place. Works fine and good as new if not better.
I can't see it being a problem. We had to take ours to bits to take the canvas off and it wasn't hard. Ring Pennine they should be able to supply the part. For an awful moment I thought you meant the A frame had bust so this came as a relief!
------------- Good friends are hard to find, difficult to leave and impossible to forget.
We discovered this weekend that our central hoop was about to snap. I managed to find a wide jubilee clip and rescue some of the weekend away, but now we need a permanent repair/replacement.
IS there a recommended way to fold down? We were not even aware, and maybe this how ours became damaged too! Ours is a 93 Sterling. We did manage to get the damaged section out easily enough.
any camping shop have tons of spare poloes going cheap which will be ideal to repair your section, just take the damaged bit with you so you know you be getting the right dia, lenth it don`t matter.
not so good about the broken frames, pennine should be able to help but i find them a bit awkward to deal with . first thing i'd do is see if they have a replacement and want to sell it! if not, i'd remove it and get pipe or threaded rod to fit inside the broken frame and weld in place, so the crack is welded to pipe and together and the geometery will stay the same, grind it down even and paint , wa la good as new,
the sequence for unfolding is back end first then hitch and to fold it's hitch first then back.
Thanks for your reply. I have been waiting for pennine to call me back for two days already. Hmm, maybe a repair is the better option then. I will start looking into that too.
Thanks also for the hints on the folding/unfolding sequence. We think we had been doing it the wrong way, so it is likely our fault. It is almost a relief ! At least we now have a reason.
