I didn't look at the cancellations until after I wrote the post. Funny how all of them were retracted around about the same time, give or take an hour or so! Never seen it on an any other listing before!
I've emailed Ebay to complain about this auction as a suspected fraud, I would suggest if you can spare a minute to do the same, at least he might get a nasty email from ebay.

not in an auction! If E-bay is genuinely seen as an auction in Law, then a bid is a bid unless the goods are misrepresented.
I suspect that the legal status of Ebay is a bit grey though.... maybe someone else more erudite can enlighten me on this point!

well im just going from my experience i used to sell quite a few items on ebay that cost 100 quid and once or twice people decided not to go through withpurchase so to get my sellers fees back from ebay i had to report them to ebay as non paying bidders when i asked ebay if they could actually make them honour the purchase i was told that in uk you have the right not to compleate purchase using the distance selling regulations
