We are having a few adaptions made to our Cruiser, and was wondering if anyone else has made any.

This as come about due to the fact that we loaned our camper out to our brother in law and his wife last week, and they loved it. They live next but one to us so its great if we need any help with anything to do with DIY. He makes luxury narrow boats from start to finish, so as come up with a few gadgets for us and good ideas.

He is fitting us a new water pump system, so we don't have to use the foot switch on the floor, he as also made us an extention work surface that can flipped up from the back of the seat cushion, and will fold away after use, he has also brought us some square 12v lights that we can clip anywhere we might want to use them. I can't wait for them to be fitted this weekend, ready for being put to the test next week.

I have also thought about a bit of 6 ply wood the size of the table, that could be kept underneath one of the materesses, and put in place to make the third bed up, and this will leave the table for use in the awning.

So have you made any adaptions in your folding camper?

We made a wooden cover the size of our sink with door stops for feet so we didn't have to put heavy things on the glass lid. Also a shelf for the "TV" cupboard so its a bit higher and the cutlery drawer goes under it so you don't have to open the cupboard door every time. We also have two little bits of wood to make the third bed so the table stays in the awning. We use clip on fluorescent tubes from our frame tent days by the bedroom. Like the sound of the flip out work top!

Havent made anything yet I have a 92 pennine pullman. Some/all of the new pullmans have an 'extra' bit between the sink and the bedroom it must slide into place and gives you a couple of extra shelves it is has high as the roof lining. I would like to make one of these, so if anybody knows what I am on about then can you post some measurements and also how does it join to the kitchen so it is strong enough? I have also thought about extending my worktop, will do as recommended above!

On the pathfinder it slots into a channel on the back of the cooker and then clips to the bathroom.

On our 2001 Pullman it stood to the side of the sink and clipped to the back

I sewed pockets into the bedroom sides - these were a type of neutral coloured net - into which I could put a light and my book - and into which I could hook my earrings!

We shelved our wardrobe out but left approx 4/5 inches for hanigng space to the right hand side of the shelves..

In our Pathfinder we also put in a spare power point on the base where the sink attached - sounds dangerous but in later models one was put in as standard - that means the kettle was safer when plugged in.......

......... and then we sold it........

Thanks for the replies so far, I hope there are some more ideas still to come.

I have been looking at the conway owners site, and I am going to also ask if he can also make me one of those small fold down tables, again so we can leave the big table in the awning.

Doesn't the Conway have an external power point?   The Pennine Pathfinder did.

Pennine Plodder- I like the pocket idea...mmmm this sounds like a practical thing to do on my privacy curtains that span each bunk end? I am always groping around for my glasses, watch & booklight..

I have found some green 70's retro tv trays at the local Goodwill thrift store. I use one as extra counter space near my outdoor stove.

some of the modifications we have done:

The hutch across from the dinette had drawers, but the drawers were always coming out of the glides. OH made them into cupboards. Using plywood for the top shelf, the bottom was left exposed to the vinyl floor. We used the front of the original drawers for the cupboard doors. It made lots more storage in those 2 areas! plus I am not getting irritated by catawompas drawers.  Link to a pic of the drawers turned into cupboards.

this next link shows the cupboards when latched:

http://www.gallery.pstartech.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=6613

The cupboard in the next section that has the wheel-well, was helped by OH making a shelf there too. so that we wouldn't be piling items on the wheel area, plus makes it a little neater to stack things in there. Link to picture :

When we are camping in one spot for more than a couple of days, I wanted more shelving. We made a portable shelf that can be taken apart for when we are popped down. We set it up in the galley area.  It is made of 2 cheap spring loaded shower curtain rods, and kitchen maid organizer baskets that I got at the local charity thrift shop. OH uses  "c" clamps to attach the basket shelves firmly. This setup is friendly to our ceiling. no drilling required .

Good day to everyone? it is after midnight here.

Pennine Plodder: Great idea to shelve the wardrobe. Why didnt I think of that. My Conway Cruiser is brand new so I am loathe to do much with it at the moment. Have to say though .... you are a clever lot. I wouldnt have thought of these ideas myself. One other thing has anyone actually fitted an external power socket? That sounds like a pretty decent idea. Power up the awning so to speak.

when I had my pennine pullman I had a large sheet of thin ply wood, I can't remember the exact dimensions approx 4 foot by 3 foot that I would put on the bed at the side of the sink as extra work space and at night it could be stowed under the mattress

Camping Woman,

I like the galley Shelf, I was thinking of something similar.

I am going to put up the camper tomorrow weather permitting, and try out the new shelf extension. and I will post a pic in my profile. We are also re-carpeting the floor, this weekend, luckly OH is a carpet fitter, so we always have loads of pieces of spare carpet.

I also think the shelves in the wardrobe are a great idea, another possible thing to be done this weekend.

Please keep these ideas coming, I am sure lots of people besides us will find them great ideas.

If you attatch the shelves in the wardrobe with velcro, they can be removed if you need the wardrobe back.

We shelved out our wardrobe using small lengths of timber to rest them on using no nails, they slotted out for travelling and we out the pillows in there.  Always left the sleeping bags on the beds!
