Hi there

First season with my 1986 vinatge esterel and all is well - I dont even know it is there behind the Freelander and its plenty big enough for me and the missus

I am looking to service it and trying to source wheel bearings and brake shoes - anybody got any ideas where I might get them from?

Cheers

Stu

Hi Stu and welcome,

Wheel bearings are easy, just take the old one to a bearing distributer and they will match it. As you left out your location I can't really help but a google search will find one locally. Same for the brake shoes, they are usually a standard size so try Halfords or a Kwik fit or the like and see if they can match them, if not, look for brake shoe relining, there are a few firms that specialise in this field.

Hi Bob & thanks for the welcome!

I am in Stourbridge in the West Mids - I have founs a bearing specialist in Worcester so I will give them a whirl.

My other 'toy' is a 1970 Ford Taunus and I have had shoes relined in the past for this - usually very expensive and the linings dont really last that long or provide decent braking in my experience.

The trailer has the marking 'ftf' on a plate and also on the centre of the hub - i am guessing this is the trailer manufacturer as apposed to esterel who make the actual camper part??

The USA running gear on my Coleman was replaced with UK components when it was imported in the early 80's, the axle bears the same markings.
Another member and I did some research last year into our elderly trailers and discovered that the running gear was manufactured by a company called B&B trailers based in the south coast area, a company of the same name in Lemington Spa,  when contacted, informed us that the  company we were looking for went out of business a long time ago, and confirmed that they only manufactured the trailer running gear not full trailers.
Could be the same case for your Esterel.

Bob
