Hi all

Thinking very seriously of buying a Folding Camper...fed up with our caravan....but would really love an FC with all the extras...i.e hot water and a toilet.  How many months of the year can you use a FC for without freezing to death or is that not a problem.  Which model would be best for us....two adults and one child and are they easy to put up as I have a bad back so my hubby and son who's nearly 11 would be doing all the hard work......any advice would be most welcome.

Thanks Sue

They are easy to put up and one person can do it.  They are draughtier than caravans but fan heaters will warm them up.  Some people camp out in tents throughout the year without luxuries such as heaters and beds off the ground.  Dandy fcs have insulated walls.

We have the pathfinder with loo and hot water. Two people can easily put it up I expect your son is as tall as me (or as short) the gas struts make it quite easy. We have been out in February and with electric blankets were fine.

I frequently have odd trips by myself with the Pathfinder and have no trouble manhandling and putting the unit up without any help. I can erect the awning by myself as well. (I'm 63). In fact, even when my wife is with me I usually do most of it myself anyway.

Like others say, if you get cold, use a heater, though I find that it's warm enough under the duvet no matter how cold it gets. I can't imagine a caravan would be significantly warmer than an FC.

cheers, Terry

Thanks everyone I shall now go back to OH to discuss all that you have kindly shared with me and I think we will visit Barrons this weekend just to have a look at different models and get a feel of what we like first then if we like put our van up for sale and go from there.  Sorry Waungoch to hear that your husband has had a heart attack hope he is going to be ok....will have to get back to you after our search...so if someone else comes along take their money...please don't hang around waiting for us as not sure yet on model or price.

I think any of the units are fine for winter use as long as you don't mind the winter!! Getting dark early & the wet put me off personally although I'd fancy it more without the kids and lying round reading & relaxing.....
