Have you tried MUCK-OFF from Halfords. It is really a cycle cleaner but will remove all manner of road filth. Wouldn't touch canvas with it, but is brilliant for PVC ! and trailer base.
Hi, I used to clean my car with washing up liquid, then I read that it is full of salt and abrasives (which makes sense if you thing that it is designed to remove burned on grease and food from pans!). Any decent car shampoo will do the job without taking your paint off and will do the PVC cover without harm.
