....sorry, don't know where my post went?? Try the conwayowners.org.uk site and I'm sure someone will be able to help - mind you someone will prob be along here soon that can!
Sorry Woody can't help but the title of your post brought back many happy memories. We had a cardinal clubman when the kids were young and had many happy hours in it. Enjoyed it better than the caravan in those days.
I'd love to find a mint Cardinal Clubman, seems that nobody will part with the good ones, and Conway tell me that its gonna be a couple of years before the new hardtop hits the dealers
Can you clarify which cables you mean? I have the original Handbook of our 1990 Cardinal Clubman and the only mention of cables is "wiring of connecting cable for mains inlet".

I know this is an old post, but as it will help others when they need it.
The cables can be adjusted from inside the camper at the rear . You will need to remove the cover/step to the bed (boxed in section on the floor). Depending on the current roof position you may need to remove the covers in the cupboards. Once the cables are exposed you will see a plate with 5 cables attached one going to the winch and 4 other going in the oppsite direction. These 4 cables will have bolts on the end of them with locking nuts. Loosen the locking nuts and adjust as required. Retighten locking nuts and check heights. Adjust roof in the full hieght position. Wind roof down and back up, then recheck roof. Repeat if required.
I would reccommend you prop up the roof as a precaution as you're working within the camper.
I found this out as a result of a cable snapping when winching the roof up. If this happen and you can't obtain replacement cables, you can do as I did and buy new cable the same gauge from a boat chandler and some 'u' clamps for the ends. Just make sure the cable is flexiable enough for use (that you can coil the cable around your finger with ease).
So far as new hard top project goes, it seems the pennine group are not going to make any more. See their web page and look in the news section - says they have shelved the idea. It seems they are too costly to make now, so i suppose the budget caravans would be the same price or cheaper than the hard top camper. Even though the fc would be easier to store at home and easier to tow, it would take the best salesman in the world to sell the avarage punter a tent/caravan hybrid for more money than a better equipped and easier to set up caravan. I love my fc but i am sure you can all see the problem for joe public who know not how lucky we all are....
