Hi, new to this site, looks great, I am intrested in purchasing a second hand trailer out of the local paper, but how do I know if the trailer isnt stolen? I can see a chassis number on it. Is there a database in where I can check?
If theowner is a member of one of the owners clubs there is a possibility that they may have registered the unit. The Conway Owners Club is keeping a database of members units for just this reason. I dont know of any national database with this information. I think that you have just got to use your head and "gut feeling" when viewing units for sale, the vast majority of people selling trailer tents etc are genuine. If you have any doubts about an advert try posting a message about it here to gauge opinion.
I don't know of a database you could check to see if the trailer is stolen, but what are the sellers like? How long have they had the trailer? Why are they selling it? If the sellers seem genuine, then trust your instincts, and if it's the trailer you want, go ahead any buy it.
Hope this helps

Hi couple of things that help ie do they have a home number and not a mobile ? are you veiwing at a home address ? and not in tescos car park ? take their car reg ( if it did turn out to be stolen you have something to give police ! ) ask for a receipt of sale and full address ! these things help but most people are ok ! and as one said go by your gut feeling ! good luck Paul
I'm selling a trailer its more a less brand new (brought last Aug) used once for a camping trip, now we have brought a camper! (I have the reciept) been kept in a garage, it was from Halfords and has the cover.
