I read with amusement of your first experience of getting home with your folding camper, we too bought our f/c from Barrons, last year got it home, road has a slope, parked up, put on the brake, uncoupled the f/c which promptly ran away backwards, only saved by the thin safety towing wire, after much panicing a passing car driver stopped and helped us recouple it, we must have looked  desperate, we too learned 'very rapidly' that the brake must be pulled straight upwards.  After much swearing, apportioning of blame to one another and threats of 'why did I let you talk me into buying this thing' and 'shall we take it back', I went straight out and bought some large red chocks for the wheels, so at least every time we uncouple it I know it is not going to run away

We have a small driveway on a slope and the only way we can get it on the drive is to reverse it, I enjoy taking the camper out but dread it when we return home and try to reverse it onto the drive, which usually takes us up to 3/4 of an hour and have half the neighbours either watching and laughin from the comfort of their front window, or out on the road with us trying to give us moral support in the fom of 'try turning the steering wheel right/left, full lock/back, go forward, backwards etc' usually accompanied by a light drizzle that is associated with the Northwest of England

At this point the kids are usually inside warm cosy and watching tv, and daren't even venture out to ask if we are going to have supper!

I remain hopeful this year that controling the 'thing' will improve this year, but I have to say I dread taking it off the drive, because we will then have to get it back on again.  Haven't made it into the garage yet, but still there is always hope!!

PS love the puppy

If the finances will run to it get a motor mover fitted.  Possibly THE best accessory for either a FC or a caravan.  It allows for small adjustments, as well as slow manoeuvring of the units and has saved marriages!

We have only a short drive down to the garage but it is about a 1 in 5.  The mover we got makes putting the van away and taking it out simplicity itself and allows steady positioning as close to the garage door as is possible.  Also with the hitch downhill it is another obstacle to would be thieves.

Brian, what make of mover have you got , and does it easily move the van back up your drive ,as ours is about that steep but longer and i didnt think a mover would cope with the incline , maybe time to make life easier and get a mover

We have a rhyno mover and it copes easily with the gradient.  They move quite slowly and have soft start to position the van exactly over the towball.  They turn on their own axis and we can move the van out in minutes.  It is now a much bigger job removing wheelclamp and raising steadies.  The rhyno is great but cost around £800.  I have seen a cheaper deal on Truma - £649 but I don't know if it is still current.
