forget the big sites of the c and cc as they are getting far too dear stick to the da#s each weekend and you have at least 13/14 cheaper sites over the year
Can I ask where most of the DA's are held, and the price per night. We just paid £42 for a weekend and think some sites are getting expensive when it is just a base for a couple of days. I imagine at DA's you need to use your van for all facilities is that right? Are there additional toilets for instance?
Thanks, Wendy

Wendy - over here the 3 DAs have a mixture of weekend meets at either a commercial site like Tollymore or Drum Manor, or other places like Rugby clubs, schools, etc. Each DA will have 1 meet every weekend from about March to October (ish).
Never having been to one in a non-commercial site, I can't say if they all need toilets, but I'd guess that most will have some sort of toilet available in most cases. They advertise 'own san adv' or 'own san ess' (own sanitary advisable or essential) in the club magazine anyway. Even when they go to commercial sites they tend to use overflow fields and the like, which can be far from the normal toilet block, so most meets tend to be at least 'own san adv'.
Hi folks, we got rid of the m/home and we are now back to a caravan!! Lost a fortune but missed the space the caravan has compared to the m/home. Enjoyed the experience of owning one but to be honest we used it more like a caravan staying on sites. Getting it on Monday so hopefully get a few weekends away soon.
Good luck with your new caravan Paul. After the fiasco this week with holiday travel companies, more and more folks will be turning to caravaning. Need to book earlier!
Yes oakydoaky, I see Alitalia are in trouble now, has made the other half think twice about next years holiday. She wanted to go to Spain or Canaries, looks like we'll head back to France in the caravan, avoiding the tunnel though!
Even the caravan industry has been hit. As you may have read Avondale are in trouble and may not reopen. Guess what I bought? Yes an Avondale. Was going to cancel though I have been reassured the dealer will honour the warranty. Hmm...
I know all about them, have dealt with them in the past. Dennis formerly of Motorhome Ireland is now working there and we are dealing with him. Always said I wouldn't go back but as were trading in a m/home, choices were limited.
Just getting ready to go and get it now. Just the warranty issue niggling away in the back of my mind!
Well, got the van and its fantastic. Wider than my last van i had and the mover I had fitted was worth every penny. Guided it down the drive and along side the garage with no problems. Its an Avondale Argente 550/4 and so far everything seems to be OK. No horror stories yet as some people would have you believe they are badly built. Time will tell. Off to Sandycove for 1 night! on Saturday to try it out. My brother is going there for the weekend so I said I'd call down. Unfortunately I have to work Saturday morning.
Hi there,
I see that a number of you here could be having issues with motorhome Ireland's bankruptcy. I'm a journalist looking into this issue, and would love to hear from anyone who has been affected, or who has friends who have been affected. Oakydoaky - I'd love to hear from you about your neighbour who you mentioned has been hit badly by this. Hope to be of some help. Do get in touch ASAP thanks!
