Just back from 2 nights solo in North Wales. Haven't spent any time in a tent since 1975. Could've all gone horribly wrong - actually went really really right thanks to the helpful comments on here & the useful tips. After a few weeks of road works outside my home + a 2 day music festival across the road, I was ready to rip my own head off, in need of some peace & quiet & it worked! Be good to have some company next time but am a total wimp & need a degree of certainty for good (dry) weather - only took off last weekend because of the gorgeous weather & a pretty certain forecast of more to come.

Welcome to the camping world and UKCS Jo. The first place to start looking for good campsites is on here - Camp Site Search at the top of the page. Select the area you want to go to and you can refine your search by ticking the boxes on the left for the features you want; you can also read the reviews of the sites, which will help you decide which you want to go to.

I think most camp sites are safe really, probably safer places than many local town centres, but if you're worried then pick one where the owners/wardens/managers/ live on site or where there is on-site security. Keep your mobile with you at all times and have a contact number for the owner/warden in case it's necessary but to be honest I don't think you would need it. I camp on my own with my two dogs and have never felt unsafe or worried on any site I've ever been to.

If you fancy having a trial weekend to see how you get on then I can recommend Wyreside Farm Park at St. Michaels near Garstang. It's a lovely peaceful little place and Penny the owner lives on site, and it's not a million milles from you.

No problem, anything you want to know about camping then just post a message in the relevant section on here and you'll get loads of advice and info. And don't worry about asking something which you may think is silly or trivial - there's no such thing as a silly question on here

MissJo, theres a really nice camp site just oast Garsrang called Wyreside Lakes, its got lots of things on this site for all needs. Have a look on google its not near main roads and is so safe. Its somewhere I am going back to in August.   Maybe youd like to join us Nutters on one of our meets? Take a look at meeting up and getting together sub catagory 2 solo campers.   We meet up at various sites and always feel welcome! Our next camp is Edale Coopers.

Good luck. Tink x
