Thanks Stu...we,re ok,but we,ve had a couple that have been a bit too close to home....less than 10 km away in the hills behind our house. The water bombers were flying over our place for several hours trying to put it out.The fire was in a totally inaccessible area and there were about 350 firefighters there trying to contain it.If it had got away it would have been a disaster! That was Monday and on Tuesday there was another one in the other direction about 20 km away! Everything is just so dry at the moment,it doesn,t take much for one to start. We,ve had a week of the temp.being around 39 deg and Saturday is supposed to be 41!!
I hope you and the family are all well and still having a great time over there!
Good to hear you're ok Mel. I bet dave's been panicking about the vines eh? I know in our bit of France we're not allowed to light fires from the end of Feb to November! There's a glitch in May, when we're allowed again, according to our local 'bible', which is published and distributed to the residents of our commune by the Mairie.
Still, good to know you're all ok! Nice temps. We hit a high of 43 here last summer! I still have it recorded on the min-max thermometer, so you'll be right at home if we get the same again this year!
We woke again this morning to the smell of smoke in the house! There is smoke everywhere and it,s 39 today! Apparently the smoke is drifting from some huge bushfires in Victoria which is across the border from us about 500 km away!
We have total fire bans here here from November to March with huge fines if you start a fire.A lot of these fires are from lightening strikes. You get the occasional "luney"that likes to start one .....
We,re off in the van tomorrow for a few days...can,t wait!
Hi everyone, I've finally decided to go from Plymouth to Roscoff the week before the Cornwall meet (about the 9th August) and stay on a site in brittany for 10 nites, as this will be my first visit to France I'm a little apprehensive of travelling further afield. Anyone interested please let me know and we will take it from there.
Well at least we know there are several people wanting to go to France next year Caz, gives us more time to organise something for then. Are you going to the Cornwall meet then? If so, will see you there
Im definately off to France in August hopefully after the french national holidays, still havent decided where, will get all my bookings done this week though.
