Merry, I didn't speak to the owners, just left my message on their machine. I didn't even think about the condition of the pitches; I was more concerned with the volume of rain and it's effect on my tent and the enforced confinement of four or five children and their resultant moaning. Our groundsheet isn't sewn in and heavy rain comes straight in onto everything. You may have guessed by now that we aren't exactly competent campers. I am hoping that if it isn't as wet on the saturday ( that's assuming the forecast for Friday is accurate) then we could come for that one night and it wouldn't matter so much if we got wet because we'd be going back on the Sunday. That is the plan. I don't want to miss out on the famous 'pink' especially since I have plenty of wine to add to the brew so Saturday should see us there unless it is torrential all day. But to return to your question, does anyone know if their tent field gets boggy or should I phone them to ask?
Hi. I have just rung Rhyd-Y-Groes. The field and the pitches are not at all boggy (they were mowed yesterday and were fine) but they are very wet and due to get even wetter. The campsite owners are expecting very heavy rain, as per the forecasts.
I'll admit that I'm in a total dither about this. I've been looking forward to this meet for so long. I had guessed I might be bringing a wet tent home so had dug out a nylon tent and taken it for a practice outing last weekend! But starting off this weekend with solid rain and then it not improving much doesn't sound too great, especially as I have already dried off three separate tents in the last week. The dog will have webbed feet soon LOL.
Anyway, the pitches are OK which is important so I'll just keep clicking around the weather sites to see if any of them can start to show an improvement. Fingers crossed. MT

Sorry folks, but I've very reluctantly decided to give this one a miss. Feeling really gutted about it to be honest because I've had my name down and been looking forward to it for so long but I keep coming back to the Met Office severe weather warning for tomorrow, and I can't see that being any fun in a tent. The forecast for Saturday seems to be less heavy rain but still very overcast, wet and windy - am hoping that will improve and if so there will still be some possibility of recovering at least part of the weekend. All my stuff is sorted and ready to go so its only a case of putting it in the car.
Caz, I am so sorry. You put so much effort into organising these meets and then the weather does this. For the first weekend in September its awful. MT

Yesterday afternoon and evening were nice here, so it will have had a chance to dry out somewhat before the deluge that started again in the middle of the night.
The pitches at Rhyd y Groes drain well, and they have some hard standings for the caravanners and motorhomers, but I'm not sure about the tent area because the weather's never been bad when we've been before.
I look forward to seeing whoever makes it!
Please keep the site owners advised of your intentions, thank you.

..been to set up and come home for kids - they've chickened out so I have a night to myself! Got a hard standing pitch for the combi as the grass did seem very wet & squelchy - its clearing on and off here but more rain due so they say....
Cheers, maryn. I'd seen a report yesterday evening of a 4x4 getting stuck in a ford near Welshpool so I'd more or less written the weekend off. It is brightening up here - well, its stopped raining at least! - but I won't be joining you. Such a shame that so many things arranged for this weekend will be washed out.
Hope you all have a good weekend though and hope to see you and your lovely part of the country another time. MT

Just got home. I think you made the right decision. The ground was quite squelchy all day yesterday, although it has been drying out nicely today. There was one brave couple in a tent who arrived yesterday morning. The A483 is open again, but some other roads are still closed.
Those of us who made it had a nice quiet time. Thanks Elizabeth, Mark & Jonathan for letting us gather in your caravan as it was the one with most room.
Mary - I forgot to give you the heat beads for the Cobb.
