I may well be the only one, but are there ANY single/independent travellers out there? I'm sociable and get on well with most people and have friends who have kids/and or are couples etc/but also like my peace and love my own company.
Getting a bit sick of the "everyone is a couple and has kids" attitude of holiday bookings? As a teacher I don't mind seeing kids on holidays - but prefer peaceful places with independently minded people and basically not being made to feel like a freak just cos I enjoy my own company!
And yes have looked at "adult only sites".
Just because we travel alone does not mean we are looking to date either! So many "single travellers companies" are really cheesy dating agencies in disguise?
No you certainly aren't the only lone camper, there are lots of us!... Because I'm self employed (and semi-retired!) I can often just 'drop everything' and go camping when I choose. Unfortunately, not everyone is so lucky, so I quite often camp on my own and I'm quite happy with my own company too...
I've never found a problem with booking sites as a single person, though I generally use C.S.'s (independent small camp sites, available to "Camping & Caravan Club" members). Most C.S.s are small, quiet, farm sites in lovely rural areas. What others think of me camping alone, I don't know and don't care. I just do my thing(s) and enjoy myself.
I tried an 'adults only' camp site a few years ago (not on my own then) and didn't like it. It was like "heavens waiting room" with most people sitting in caravans watching television and occasionally taking small fat terriers for a waddle around the site. From my limited experience I wouldn't use one again, or recommend them (if only from a boredom point of view)...
there are single meets orgernised on here, and you are not on your own there are lots of single campers single pearants all wellcome join a meet and enjoy yourself.
------------- geoff & annb,--
never lost just on tour
your just jealous of the little voices talking to me
I'm a solo/single camper too (and new to it so still finding my camping feet!) I've been to one adults only site which was great and one more family orientated site which I didn't enjoy as much. So still trying to work out what I like best I suppose!
Hi , I'm also a solo camper vanner with the dog. I've never been to an adults only site. I used to take my nieces with me but now they've met boys!!
Dont know where you are but i'm going to the Oxford end of summer meet . There are other soloists there so we wont be on our own!! . Why dont you come along ?
I went on a Solos holiday last year to Turkey - it was fine. I would reccommend it . Cant afford it this year though due to rising costs....
i'm a young solo camper in my twenties!! i met some really nice people earlier this year and had a great time!! think i was the youngest guy there and only solo camper!!
not many people want to go camping so i go on my own!!
I just wanted to say that I am also a female solo camper and proud of it. I enjoy the company of others, just as much as my own. I think it gives you alot of freedom to go where you like, when you like, without having to drag unwilling companions along with you. I have attended one solo/single parents meet, which was okay, but I do prefer the small rural farm type campsites, as someone already mentioned. So you're defintely not alone. I used to have a dog but he died and I hope to get another one, although I've never experienced any problems being a lone camper! So be proud and keep your chin up.
