We thinking about going 10th - 14th August, just me and the kids (single parent). Yeah, we get bus to M/boro then the 93, stops just outside Hook's House, but not sure where to get off for Middlewood, or where to go once we get off so we gonna have bus ride out one day maybe next week for a trail run out, without loads of heavy stuff to carry, maybe stay overnight (any excuse to get under that canvas! )
If you do go when we're there let me know, come over and have a drink! Lady friends also welcome
hi patch. not sure exactly where the bus will stop for middlewood. but i am am fairly sure it will be close to camp site. i should be able to make it that weekend for a few days. dont have a lot of money.. i will have about £160 for the weekend. maybe a little more.the camp is just over the valley from hooks house. you can actualy see it from the site. i tried to get the phone number. but. soon as i bring the site up. the number vanishes. maybe if you try it . it may work for you. if not. try directory enquiries. they are bound to have it. if you would like to add me to your e/mail. i can mail you a pic from hooks house. all you got to do is enlarge the pic. and you will see the camp just to the left of photo.. Ok, thanks for that. I know all about budget holidays! We'll be on a shoestring, but as long as I've paid for my pitch and we eat regularly, that's enough for me. Just getting away for a few days makes me happy!
I am from Leeds and am new to this forum. I love hiking and camping. I arrived in UK over 4 months back and have got all my gear but havent been out. I am wondering if there are folks that go out camping regularly and I could join them.
I have a solo tent and would love to join fellow campers sometime.
I too am from the Leeds area and am a solo camper without any kids. I too like hiking and camping and am looking for people to camping with.
The problem I have is that I also have weekdays off and have to work some weekends. My friends find excuses not to go but if you don't get out there and enjoy your interests you end up just staying at home, don't you.
I am a female in my early 40's with no small children or partner.
Please let me know if you come across other campers in the same situation.
hi suzy. i am a solo camper as well. mate does not really seem interested now.but i intend to go every 4 weeks. usualy on friday every 4th week. that is when i have enough saved up. put a post on here when ya going. and i will try and join you. it would have been away this weekend. but son has got my tent. so it will be 4 weeks from today that i go.
Not sure yet where to go and if I have time off work. Will let you know in the next coming weeks. I will look on the site and see if there is anything going on in the North East area. I am from Leeds area.
hi suzy. well summer has just arrived here in gateshead. it is pouring down. genuine english weather.and just over the road from me. 4 people got off the bus. no coats either. hehehe. so they are standing in the shelter. teach them a lesson for going without a coat. should know better.
That's awful. Must admit we've had a cracking storm here. Not so sure I would've wanted to be in the tent at that point.
Superpup, are you going to Tribfest in Beverley on August 29th? I have requested the weekend off work but there are already loads of staff requested it. If I can go do you and a few others fancy going? I'm trying to see if my mate wants to go but haven't heard anything.
The tribute acts include: Razorlight, Green Day ect. Should be real fun (if you're into that kind of thing
not my scene liveyourlife. but. i may just go anyways. i will check a few things out . like how to get there. i am a backpacker. no car. but i do have free travel on the trains
It may be a bit noisy, have to read up a bit more on it. I haven't even got the tent out of the garage yet. Been working alot lately but give me another couple of weeks and I'll be off!!!
My friend may go to the Tribfest with me but I'm sure we'll meet up along the way.
hello, another single camper here and avid fan of Hooks House. As i always tend to go on my own, i just cant beat the homely feel of HH. I know that you can see middlewood from the site.
It is the 93, if you tell the driver where you are going, he will tell you where to get off
there seems to be a couple of us single campers about!
poly. there is a lot more single campers than you would think. when i was in hooks last year. july. ther was about 20 there. various size tents they had. one guy had a 6 berth tent. and just himself all week. i may go there in 4 weeks time. july 10th. so may see you there if you are going. the weather was not too good when i was ther last year. son was with me. rained on that day.but soon as we got the tents up. yeah it stopped. but what a view. stunning. there is a place beside inverkiething. 1 mile from rail station. £6 a night. all forest. wood hut toilet. no showers. but wow. the peace you have. lots of wild animals. squirrels. rabbits. walks in the forest. better than hooks for that. but not the view hooks has. but only a few mins walk to town for food. and things ya need.
