I am wondering if there would be any intrest in a Scottish Tour Meet in 2010?

It would consist of travelling aproximately 50 miles between sites and we would travel every second day.

50 miles - arrive at the site - stay that night, all of the following day to visit and explore the area and then stay that night - travel another 50 miles - arrive at the site - stay that night, all of the following day to visit and explore the area and then stay that night - and so on.

Looking at the maps and starting say at Balloch, at the bottom of Loch Lomond, we would head north to Glencoe, north east to Inverness, east to Burghead, south east to Arbroath, south west to Perth, finally south west back to Balloch.

7 campsites in 12 days.

Memebrs could join at any point and/or stay longer anywhere and/or do a double drive and catch up with us further on.

This is just an idea but it would give folks a chance to see a bit of our country and decide whether they want to come back at some point in the future to explore a particular area, more thoroughly.

By only doing about 50 miles a day, it would give us time to stop at any place of interest along the route.

So, anyone interested?

Still toying with the idea and hopefully more members will show an interest.

I would also like to hear of any suggestions of possible areas of interest that folks may want to visit during such a tour? Perhaps places that you have heard about and would like to take this oportunity to explore.

I have not given any thought to any particular time of year Norman.

At the moment I am more concerned about if there is an interest in the idea.

Doing a tour where you are packing up and moving on every second day is not everybodies cuppa tea and so there will only be a limited amount of people interested.

Basically I was hoping to attract an interest from those that had never been north of the border to give them a wee taster of various areas where perhaps they would return, some time in the future, to explore these areas themselves more fully and perhaps stay a while.

I am also hoping to visit tourist attractions on route, hence the comperatively small actual journey times between overnight stays.

Really it will be up to those who do show an interest to decide when they want to do it and what they would like to see up here.

Being retired and the word "work" being a 4 letter swear word to me, I am pretty open to anytime of year.

a wee suggestion for a visit maybe, during your trip - Loch Katrine and the Steamer?  Also a smashing place to walk and picnic.

Thanks Feeblecat. That is exactly the kind of suggestions I was looking for!

This gives me an area to look at and perhaps come up with a few other attractions that may be around there.

If there are a few, then we can use that area as one of the "base camps", if not then we use the Steamer on Loch Katrine as a stop off point on the way to somewhere else.

The Steamship Sir Walter Scott on Loch Katrine.

You should organise a Meet at Auchterarder next year Norman.

Then others could experience the efforts of your work.

I did not think that you meant I should organise the Meet, Norman.

I am merely suggesting that if someone wants a Meet (or to meet up) at Auchterarder, then they should organise one and perhaps those who attended this years and those who could not make this years, could attend next year's Meet.

The fact that you are suggesting a Meet, or meeting up there makes you the ideal person to do the organising.

As I am anticipating two fairly major operations next Spring, the chances of me being recovered enough to paticipate, let alone organise any events in 2010 are now looking extremely slim.
