Off to the lakes at lunch time for a few days with some pals. Rather looking forward to it. Forecast heavy rain this aft so will be pitching in the middle of it all.

I'd love to stay at Castlerigg, but their website says they don't take bookings and it's a long way to go from Sussex on the offchance of getting a pitch.

Yeah but there are loads and loads of other good campsites in and around the area that you would be able to get in.

Jo, your tent would fit in my garden (jungle) if worst came to the worst Wild camping at it's worst and you could have a lovely campfire and burn off all the weeds - save me a fortune on weed killer

Castlerigg farm is a good site, about 20 yards before it is another larger site. Not as good though in my opinion. Theres loads of others around the area though.

Ive tried to get on both castlerigg sites last week ,both were full. got on the site in Keswick ,by the lake ,good site with an easy walk into the town.

I'm so jelous just back from Doris and Ray's just want to go back and live there forever, just a little tip for castleriig farm, get to know Doris and Ray, and then when you arrive and the sign is out saying the site is full, drop in and say hello, works every time

Castlerigg Hall and Castlerigg Farm are close together and easy to get mixed up. If my husband and I go camping and want a quiet site we go to the Farm as they are strict about Silence after 10.30pm.  If we go camping with friends and want to sit out late and chat we go the Hall site.
 
The views from Castlerigg Farm camp fields are stunning and as long as you abide by their Silence rule the family who run the site are very friendly and helpful, if you don't agree with their Silence rule, then don't go because they do mean Silence.
 
Castlerigg Farm have the Hayloft cafe, they do a fantastic breakfast, it was so good we called in for breakfast even when we weren't staying there. Both great sites, Hall is more expensive as they have more toilets etc but they also have more pitches.
