Hi

We are new to the folding camper scene and just wondered if anyone had been any organised weekend of full week meets and how they found them, as we are keen to try one this year in the Hampshire region

Regards

Stewart

Hi Homebird

Sounds good, we are looking at going to either Merley Court or Shamba, it will only be our second outing with the unit, did you go to one of these meets? If so, which one was the better for both adult entertainment and for the kids, as my youngest will be with us?

Regards

There are COC rallies at both of those sites planned this year, in June and July. I would sayMerley would be better for entertainment as they have a family bar area with toys etc the kids which I don't recall at Shamba, however Shamba does have an indoor pool.   There is a nice little mini steam railway a walk through the woods at Merley.

Hi,

If you're going with Conway Owners Club you wont need any extra entertainment - they have a get together for drinks & chat the first night & usually organised activities the next night.  How old is your youngest?  The kids usually get together to play, our 8 year old daughter had a fantastic time. Both campsites have playparks & swimming pools as Rizzo has said and both have good dog walks.  The toilets/showers are excellent.

I dont know if we can make either rally this year but we went to Merely & Shamba last year with them.  When you arrive you are welcomed with a cup of tea & an offer to help you set up.  Then, when you're ready you can mingle.  Its up to you if you want to join in but its nice to take a walk around to see what everyone elses unit is like - theyre not all Conways though, half of them have caravans.

Hi Homebird

Sounds good, we are happy to mix and take time alone, Emily is just into being a teenager, although does mix well and likes the idea of a pool.  Can’t wait for the weather to change, it’s been a depressingly long winter; hope to get away at some point in March within the New Forest area.  You never know, may meet up at some point or rally in the future

 Regards

I'm sure you'll enjoy the rallies & there is another girl of similar age to your daughter who attended the rallies last year.  She whisked my daughter off - we hardly saw her the whole weekend!

We're desperate to get going this year, our last camp was in September, such a long time ago.  We've got the camper all set up, just need to hook up & go so hoping the temperature will go up a bit soon.

Have you sent your booking forms off yet?  I should do them asap,

Our favourite campsite is in Selsey.  Not everybodys cup of tea but suits us & we went 4 times last year but hoping to branch out a bit more & maybe find some more places to enjoy

We sent both booking forms off to cover both weekends, like you our camper is ready to go, we managed to get it out on the drive last weekend to check it over and top it up with a few things that we have purchased over the winter, can’t seem to pass a camping shop without going in and always coming out with something.  We spent the last 7 years camping in tents, although we did have a Pennine Fiesta some 14 years ago, it’s good to be back sleeping off the ground with a few mod cons, certainly as the bones get older, even the dog seems to appreciate the comfort. What’s the attraction to Selsey and the site?

The campsite is a C & CC certified site and only takes 5 caravans in one field & tents & trailertents etc in another field.  Its down a quiet lane but easy walk to town & beaches (if you like walking which, my husband & daughter don't)  The facilities are quaint.  There is a railway carriage which has been converted to contain a large room at each end containing toilet, sink  & shower which are kept very clean but the windows are "decorated" with spider webs which might bother some people. Selsey is a small town but we've found a couple of good playparks for our daughter & also an enclosed dog field.

Its very peaceful which is just what we need for a relaxing break to get away from it all.

We only tent camped for one year before getting our camper 18 months ago - we were late coming to camping  It suits us very well, especially the beds off the ground & I like coming in from the awning at night to sit up inside with a dvd.  We've also had a nice spend on things we needed, leisure battery, water pump & a shelving unit from argos clearance which someone on this forum told us about.

I'm sure you'll enjoy the conway rallies.  we just wanted to try C & CC meets as we've been members with them for 2 years & I've found some sites in Dorset/Devon that I'd like to try.
