Had a walk round the "finished" sites at Sixmilewater. Wouldn't like to be the one who gets this pitch. Its been tarred in so it will have to be dug up if they plan on removing it. It also looks like the new motorhome drain point was an afterthought rather than designed. I don't really know who was the architect but looking at the sites they weren't caravanners. They have really spoiled the views from the old pitches that faced the river and it will be really easy to reverse into the last new pitch - if you have a caravan mover or motorhome. For a few coins more they could have made it better - fully serviced sites, electric posts on the correct side of the van, no post stays in the middle of pitches. But at the end of the day they have given us 18 more pitches so time will tell if it was money well spent. I'm booked so will soon find out!!!

All turfed and looking better now, but feel very saddened by their new attitude.  Friends spoke to the warden today, he said they were actively discouraging tenters by putting them as far from the toilets as possible, charging £18 a night and hoping that it puts them off.. His own words.  Now we have stayed there for years, numerous times at different times of the season and have NEVER been bothered by tenters, a nice family site, even when bikers are there North West weekend they are absolutely no problem at all.  I love to see tents there, we started in a tent and while we now enjoy the van and will never go back to canvas we never forget our beginnings and believe that camping is for everyone.

Shame on you Six Mile!

Wendy

Hi Wendy,
I agree that is a real shame.
We also started out with a tent, whats wrong with them if the people who use them are well behaved?
You can get rowdy, inconsiderate folk in caravans.
We have made "new friends" through this website who caravan and must admit, expect them to be a bit rowdy!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's an awful attitude for a warden to take

It's hard enough to get up to go to loo when you are camping, but worse whenn you are so far away from toilet block.

Did they have EHUs for the tents?

I didn't notice any signs of EHU for tents when i was there - but even the ones for the vans were going in at the last minute. If you see the photo above they only have the cables lying at the side of the pitch with 4 days until opening.

Hopefully maybe possibly going there this weekend so will see better how its working out.

Can't wait to get away. I am taking Friday off work so we can get away early.

Been staying at Six Mile Water since Wednesday.  Heading off today.

Must say, I'm well impressed with the improvements.  They have maintained the generous spacing between pitches though as everyone says, this seems to be at a cost to those wanting to stay in a tent who now have a choice of two grass areas to pitch.  Neither of these two grass areas are terribly big and they're going to be squashed in like sardines.

Having said that, purely from a caravanners point of view, I think the improvements are excellent, they've almost doubled the number of pitches and of course you can now book online.

Excellent site and we will definately be back.

Pity they didn't put the services on the right side.  How do you put an awning up when caravan put in right way round?  You will end up with services in middle of your awning.

Would have been better if they had consulted someone who actually caravans before upgrading site as I know many people in the past had complained about services on wrong side of van but then they go and do it again on new sites?????

Stayed on one of the new pitches last weekend when the weather was brilliant. Parked the van facing the river, had the ducks walking around the pitch, sitting having a beer watching the boats go by was superb. Shame about the flies, but you get used to them. There was one tent pitched where the mound used to be. Still left plenty of room for kids to play on the green area. A few more taps required though but still a brilliant site.

Flies, what flies? Called into Sixmilewater on our bikes today for a cuppa at the cafe and the first thing I noticed was the lack of flies. Couldn't believe it, where did they all go?

But where there any wasps?  Last year was terrible, especially round by the cafe, hundreds of them!  Flies have never really bothered us, but boy do I hate the wasps!

No wasps or anything. We sat at the cafe and had a cuppa, outside. Couldn't believe it.
