I would say mid week. I stayed in Domaine de la Foret which I would heartily recommend too. It's the kind of place people return to again and again. ...anyway back to Puy du fou - it's a tourist attraction primarily for the French, and that's a good thing. All the performances are in french, and although my language skills are pretty basic I was able to pick up the gist. My favourite was the Viking performance,  and the Ball of the phantom birds, which was just stunning...oh and the Gladiator show was way over the top extravagance, such a place....I'd love to go again.

Try and time your visit so you are there after dark, I missed those performances unfortunately, but I believe they are worth sticking around for.

we went to Puy du Fou a couple of years ago.  went to an evening performance of the show, spectaular is the only word to describe it.  you can also get a small radio in several languages with an earpiece to give you all the information on the show.  the radio wasn't very expensive as I remember and also at home you can get radio 2 on it so a double whammy.   One point is that the seats are concrete so you will need to take a cushion to sit on and because of the water it also blows up cold in the evenings.  mind you it was September when we went and it didn't rain all evening.

If you want to go to the night show you would need to book it in advance as it is only on on certain days.    However it is really worth it.
