SHACKERSTONE FAMILY FESTIVAL 2010
Whilst attention is turning to the 2011 Family Festival, allow us to give you an update on what happened after the 2010 event.
Since the Festival, over £18,000 has been distributed to many worthy causes, including donations to the Peter Le Marchant Trust based in Loughborough - providing outings and holidays on waterways for people of all ages with any kind of disability or serious illness and the National Autistic Society - providing individuals with help and support and the Battle of Britain memorial Trust towards their national memorial visitor education centre appeal.
Other monies have been distributed to The Battlefield railway for ongoing projects, The Ashby Canal association towards further reopening of parts of the canal and the Villages where donations have been made towards various parish projects including St Peters Church, Shackerstone and St Marys Church, Congerstone towards maintenance of the church structures and donations to the Village halls in both Shackerstone and Congerstone towards the running and maintenance of the halls.
Record attendance for both days at the Festival was the reward for all the hard work contributed by the volunteers of the committee and other assisting members of the public.
At the Festival itself, there was a dip in the number of stands attending from the previous year confirming the austere times we live in. However those attending required larger frontage of space than ever achieved in the previous sixteen years of the Festival. A further 20 stands were also in attendance raising monies for various charities and other projects.
Many caravans and tents in the riverside field with their occupants enjoying a great weekend of activities and events. On the canal there was 43 working boats and 75 visiting boats making the Canal festival one of the best supported in the country. 2010 also saw the largest number of exhibits ever achieved at the family Festival with over 400 vehicles of differing shapes, sizes ages and interest on display.
