Hi all,I would like to try this, but would be on my own & never been to a festival before.

Would I be better trying to book on site, or going to one of the sites nearby?.

Any advice from anyone who has been to this in the past would be greatly appreciated.

All the best,

andy

The Family Festival

Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th September

 UPDATE ON INFORMATION

Please note Friday & Saturday evening is not open to the general public but only to those on site including those camping, local villagers and boaters from the canal, so please have your wristbands/passes with you at all times. These will be issued to you when you arrive by Geoff or Pauline

Entertainment will be provided by ‘The Kosmiks’ and resident festival disco on Friday evening whilst on Saturday evening entertainment will continue after the return of the Festival Evening Train in the Real Ale Beer Festival marquee with ‘Christopher Nott as David Essex’ from the finals of TV’s ‘Stars in Their Eyes’ together with a ‘Sounds of the Seventies Show’ and resident festival disco. Refreshment facilities will be available for both Friday and Saturday evenings but bring a torch; it’s a dark walk back to your bed.

A Service of Worship will take place at 8.30am on Sunday near the beer marquee

You may arrive at the Festival site from 10.30am on Friday when from lunchtime the Real Ale Tent & Refreshments area will be available. If you need to arrive at a different time please ring Geoff beforehand - it shouldnt be a problem. Water will be available from a few tap sources and the use of vehicles (5mph site limit) for water collection is permitted before 9.30am and after 5.30pm on Saturday and Sunday.

At the Administration Tent you will be able to purchase your discounted railway tickets (valid on specific daytime trains and the festival participants evening special at 6.30pm on Saturday) for a trip on The Battlefield Line Railway, at a fare of only £3.50 per person (under 3’s free) with part of the proceeds of the fare going to our two nominated charities for 2011; The Derbyshire Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance and LOROS (Leicestershire and Rutland Organisation for the Relief of Suffering). Festival plaques will be available for purchase by exhibitors and participants from the Administration Tent whilst stocks last.

Directions: From the A444 at Twycross travel to Congerstone and follow the festival signs from the telephone box in the centre of the village turning right towards Barton on the Beans.  From Shackerstone proceed southwards towards Congerstone. Upon entering the village of Congerstone turn left at the telephone box. Please follow the site access signs and instructions given by the stewards

Think that brings you uptodate....see you soon.

Sorry you cant be with us this year.

Normally an announcement is made in the new year confirming the dates and where it is taking place. Forms are then posted on the Festival web site and on UKcampsite web pages around Easter at the same time as confirming the entertainment on offer.

When I last spoke to Geoff (the male part of the Campsite Management)  on sunday  he said we should have over 100 caravans or tents for this year. - which is great news. The female part of the management team, Pauline said "daft bugger, we passed that number a few weeks ago"

If you know a good 'dry weather' dance please start now.

Took my little lad along on Saturday and he loved it so much he didn't want to leave.

Will be camping next year.

Spitfire and Lancaster, simply awesome. Well done to the organisers.

I am pleased to say that over the last month committee memebers have been out to various charities and other organisations making many  donations ranging from £400 to £1,000 from the profit from Shackerstone 2011. these include our two nominated charities for 2011 of LOROS in Leicester and The Midlands Air Ambulance

I am also pleased to confirm that SHACKERSTONE FAMILY FESTIVAL 2012 will be taking place on the weekend of 1st and 2nd September.

Application forms will be available after Easter - Geoff and Pauline will once again be looking after all campers etc. As usual a discounted camping rate will be offered to UKCampsite members and an area set aside for their location.

An announcement will be made also around Easter of this years entertainment programme.
