Hi

After reading the great reviews about the above site I am going there on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th May. Hopefully the fine weather will hold.

If anyone else is going to be there I'd love to say hello............

Hope you have a lovely time - Barny Castle is one of my favourite sites.

If you want a night off from the cooking, I can highly recommend the Treasure Chinese take away that delivers to the site (pick up a menu at reception)

Yes but you would have to pay a non-member pitch fee, check out their website.

The walks through the woods around Barnard Castle are excellent this time of year! Well worth the effort.

We were there just a couple of weeks ago, we had a great time. Wish I was going this weekend, lucky you. Make sure you don't turn into the caravan club site by mistake (just out of town) like we did!! There's a really nice farm shop which does fantastic lunches (and cakes!) on the right on the main road to scotch corner, wish I was going back soon. Have fun

Thanks for the pointers, really looking forward to it.  It's only my second trip out but I've really got the camping bug

Its close enough to become a good bolthole and as I am a member and a solo camper it works out really reasonably priced

Did you have a good time at Barnard Castle, Fiona?
I am planning a trip there at the beginning of July (1st-3rd) and can't wait!

And I've just got back!!!

Absolutely loved the site and was soooooo happy to see my hometown still thriving and bustling and unspoilt. Lots to see there, a visit to High Force was a must and the woods, also quick look at the splendid Egglestone Abbey and Bowes Museum and the wonderful castle and Market Cross in the town.

As it was Bank Holiday the fair arrived just like they used to 40 years ago and the beautiful old gypsy caravans trotted through on their way to Appleby Horse Fair.'Twas wonderful to be back and I won't leave it another 40 years before I visit again (especially as that would make me 100)

Hi

Not been on for a while, too busy camping!

Have been to two other sites since but can honestly say the Barnard Castle has been the best. As a solo camper and with a trailer tent I have had the feeling I have been looked down on on the other two sites. Barney was definitely the friendliest and that is both the wardens and the other campers. The other sites have been lovely, don't get me wrong but I think where they have a high number of seasonal pitches, the residents prefer not to have short term visitors.............

Am going to go up into Northumberland in July so thought I would try the Bellingham site, there is also the one at Haltwhistle but it is fully booked for the time I am off. Hopefully they are comparable to Barnard Castle.

I am probably going to go back to Barney towards the back end of the season. Hopefully the weather will be more forgiving (thunderstorms all weekend last time) so I will get out and about with the dogs a bit more and get myself over to High Force which is stunning.

Glad to hear you are enjoying your camping. I haven't been camping long either and as a solo camper got immediately hooked. Am so happy to hear you liked Barney site I am hoping to return there too later in the year, who knows we might bump into each other.

When I was at my first campsite on a revisit as loved it so much, someone said exactly the same as you about feeling looked down on by other campers at other sites as they had a customised van but they loved the basic site we were on.Just enjoy yourself, you will return to the sites you like and put the rest down to experience.Everywhere is so varied.

I am really hoping to get up to Northumberland beaches at some point so let us know what you think of the places you go to.

Hi

I adore the Northumberland coast - so dramatic, but they didn't become like that without the wind and rain!

As I live near the beach anyway I prefer to go inland for camping trips.

Can recommend Warkworth for a visit if you are in the area, lovely village, great shop on the corner of the square near the church, can't for the life of me remember the name, but sells some lovely decorative items and gifts, have spent hours in there. Nice picnic area by the river and a lovely beach too. And of course who can resist Alnwick?
