Hi, hope it's ok to post on here. I am a lone female and have been thinking about camping solo, but still unsure about it. At the moment I have a tent but have been looking at camper vans
I know from camping solo myself last summer for the first time (after wife left) it can be nerve-wracking but once I was set up and after first day it was good, nice and relaxing and people will talk to you.
Will not be camping myself this year (most likely) as I met a non camping lady at the beginning of the year and, mistakenly now it seems, we booked a couple of holidays together (caravan and Scotland hot tub lodge) then just broke up at the weekend, so my holidays this year will be relaxing at the beach in a caravan and in a lodge in a Scottish Glen.
My advice would be to just bite the bullet and go for it and hopefully you will enjoy it.
Hi all
I think most people are nervous of solo camping at first but once you've bitten the bullet you tend to catch the bug
If you choose your site's carefully it's great fun and as I've found other campers are very sociable and you don't feel alone at all
I go regularly alone and have always felt ok with it you get to meet more people that way
Just enjoy it its great fun
ST1100 sorry to hear about your break-up Am in Scotland, North-East, where about are you going for your breaks ?
I suppose I am just going to have to try it. I was thinking about Oban, been there before with a partner, so it's familliar territory. But I am still thinking about a camper, that little bit more security.

The caravan is Essex and the Lodge is Glen Cova, nice and quiet.
Either tent or camper I am sure you wont have any problems, the hardest bit is making that decision to go in the first place and I am sure you will enjoy it.

I'm another lone female and have been camping solo with my two little dogs for six years since the break-up with my partner. I have a tent and also a very versatile large mpv which can be adapted for sleeping in, using the tent as an 'awning' for somewhere to wash and dress in private.
Yes, the first time camping solo can be a bit daunting but I think it's more the thought of it than actually doing it. I would suggest that for the first couple of times you go to a site not too far from home so it's easy to get back if find you can't hack it - my first time was at a site only forty minutes drive away. Also if you need help in putting up your tent or whatever don't be afraid to ask someone - most other campers will be happy to assist if they know you're struggling with something.
Do you have a hobby which you could combine with camping? Mine is photography so I tend to use a camp site as a base from which I can get out and about with the dogs, explore places I've never been to and look for photo opportunities. I also write a blog of my travels so many of my photos end up on there.
So, get your gear together, bite the bullet and get out there. Once you get over the first time I don't think you'll look back - I know I didn't.

I agree I am going to have to 'bite the bullet'. I don't have a problem with putting the tent up, too independent, to a fault lol. I have a dog, so I can go walks and such. It would also make me get stuck into a good book. It would be nice to be able to meet new people, that would be my goal. I live up past Inverness in a little town, so meeting new people would be interesting. I have 2 grand daughters I would like to take camping, but they are still young and a handful solo, their mum is not the camping sort lol. I suppose I had better start researching where I am going to go for my first solo camp then. Thanks guys for the encouragement and if any of you end up in the north of Scotland, give me a shout
I was up near your neck of the woods last month with some of my camping pals at a site called Ace Hideaways near Forres. Have you heard of it? We love it because its very 'rustic' , if rustic means it has compost toilets
We may be up again, but not for a few months Ace Hideaways

Hi there
Yeah I had a look at your post, looks ace. I will definitely be going there in the summer holidays. Let me know when you are going again. Do they accept dogs ? I need to explore more of my surroundings
We have our meets all year but more often outwith what may be seen as the usual camping season . That way we often get wherever we go to ourselves and can be a bit more relaxed about noise rules. A big campfire, a few (or more) drinks and lots of laughs keep us warm when the weathers a bit more challenging
Here's another link to one of our meets , again , we were lucky with the weather.
I also travel alone with my 2 dogs.
I joined the New Companions Camping Club a few years ago and can thoroughly recommend. It is a club for people who camp/caravan/motorhome on their own.
Check out the website http://newcompanions.org.uk.gridhosted.co.uk/
Also just bought a camper van this year with the idea of solo adventures.
Thanks all you lovely people who have posted reassuring messages. I'm definitely going to be looking for meets in the south-west initially then spreading my wings next year.
I'm 36 single male, after break up of relationship a year ago I went and bought myself an old tourer and put it on seasonal pitch near whitby where me the ex and kids used to go, really enjoy it just me and the dog, if anyone wants recommendations for that area give me a shout. I take the caravan home and of season so will do a bit of touring :)
