I love going camping but this weather is bloody awful. I'm off somewhere next week. Looks like the weather will determine where. A case of checking the weather the day before and then going on a mad hunt to find somewhere to stay. I've still never managed to camp in the Lake District. Always end up going in the other direction. Nothing worse than having to setting up in the rain.
We are keeping our eye on the weather forecasts. We dont normally plan to camping if the weather is unsettled (fair weather campers now). But we are committed to going to the RIAT airshow for 3 days so will be camping in the rain if thats what the weather throws at us. Cant say Im looking forward to it......
We committed to go to shell island last year to meet up with some friends who were first time campers, with young kids. It was a bit of a disaster. The first few days were windy as hell. Gales of up to 50mph. Needless to say it put them off camping for good. Good luck for the airshow, I still have no idea where we are gonna go.
I was going camping this weekend but it's been cancelled due to weather so I've become a traitor and booked a weekend at Butlins in bricks!!! I had to, got a rare and precious 4 days off work so couldn't waste the time off,
.
Yesterday was the strongest wind we've known in our caravan but today is much better and the last few weeks of sunshine were great.
------------- We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.
