Welcome to UKC.
Been solo caravaning for over 5 years now, well me and my dog, never sensed any hostility on the sites I've been to all over the country (except never been to Yorkshire with the van as yet!) - dare I resurrect an old war and suggest any hostility has something to do with you coming from the 'wrong side' of the Pennines and wearing the wrong colour rose! Rest easy, I'm a far greater disappointment to Yorkshire folk, I'm a southerner, and worse still, a Londoner, but a bit of jibing aside (I give as good as I get!), always found a warm welcome on past visits, and indeed have a number or friends from that region and despite initial concerns I'm the Devil incarnate, they've decided at least in my case us southerners aren't so bad after all and the rumours of our demonic ways are entirely false!
More seriously, there's a number of us on here that solo camp, and generally without much concern, even the ladies. There is a small and variably active group that try and organise more 'collective' rather than 'group' camping trips for those that find going solo of concern or not to their liking. Organisation is done off this forum as personal communication not really catered for here. Look through some of the previous posts to see what activity there has been: https://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/display_forum_topics.asp?ForumID=11&PagePosit........
There are a number of formal 'clubs' for solo campers that a quick 'Google' (use search term 'solo caravanning clubs') will find, sign up for membership and pay a small fee to join their activities. Not really my cup of tea, don't mind the solo life and never felt I'm missing anything by not being more in a social group, usually have a fairly full agenda of my own interests anyway.
Pretty sure with a little searching you will find like minded folks that either offer occasional ad hoc 'do you want to join us' invites or more formal organised trips away if that's what you seek.

I would greet other campers and say hi etc., however, I don't normally engage them in any conversations and would mind my own business.
The only exception is my favourite site in Dorset, namely Birchwood Tourist Park where I would go and stay at least once a year since 2009 bar 3 years.
I got to know some of the regulars with seasonal pitches, and started to strike up conversations since I got my van - they recognised me as a tenter who had a favourite pitch, and they remembered my old dog, bless them.
I cannot remember being made to feel I was intruding other people's privacy, probably because I keep myself to myself. I don't even talk to other people using the sinks next to me when I am doing the washing up unless they start a conversation.
That's just me - a loner when I am camping.
