Just a little note to say I'm going to be at Shell Island for two nights a week today (31st March / 1st April) if anyone's around. It's my first time camping in aeons and I'm looking forward to it like a kid at Christmas! :D

I'm not proposing organising a meet or anything but if anyone happens to be on site at the time then you're more than welcome to pop over for a nice cold beer. The whole technology of camping has changed since I last went and these forums have been invaluable in educating me (and you all seem like a friendly lot anyway).

You'll be able to locate me easily. I'll be test driving my new BiSpace 300 (thanks Riff for the thread pointing out the bargain) secured with my new DeltaPegs (thanks Rob). I'm also bald with dreadful taste in Hawaiian shirts so I doubt you'll miss me. I respond to the name of 'Ben' or simply 'Oi, get off my daughter!'.

Just stroll over, offer the secret UKCS handshake and say hi. Though do try not to laugh if you notice I've pitched my tent at the bottom of a ravine in a potential flash flood zone - I'm new at this. See you there. :)

I had to read that twice then. The missing 'y' from 'lucky' threw me - I thought it said something else entirely!!!

Thank you, I'm sure I'm going to have a great weekend! I've got nearly all my kit with the exception of a barbeque. I'm going to be trying out my new sleeping bag and 'Fat Airic' tonight by camping in the kitchen with the central heating off. If I can still feel the cold floor through those then I'll either strip the heated seats from the car or bring the mattress from my bed. Either way, I'll still be going! :D

And, as they say, a picture says a thousand words so I'll be taking the ol' camera as well. Should be good for a laugh...

Hehe, I like your writing style!

If you want to get a decent pitch try and get there early, as last time I camped there I just had lots of people glaring at my car as I cruised round looking for a spot as if to say "Dont even think about!", as there must be a 20ft (I think) gap between you and your neighbours tents.

Have fun!!

Thanks for the advice Rich, what time would you recommend?

As there's a couple of us going, I'm going to want to commandeer an area fit for about five tents, ideally in a location where our drunken renditions of Klingon opera aren't going to annoy any families...

I'm planning on getting there for about lunchtime - do I need to get there earlier?
