Of course it will be full Glynn thing is ....will it be full on the day??

Marquey and Clairemc spent an awful lot of their time organising a meet at Eden Camp for 19 caravans and at least 4 didnt turn up on the day! Yes I know for 1 it was a major breakdown and another e-mailed ratty who then let claire know but what about the others?

This seems to be happening more and more and I'd love to know why.

Yer right there Angie and Glynn ! the meets are still damn good, no matter what the weather is doing, you just get on with it,  you guys that host these great meets shouldn't have to have the extra burden of having to explain to the campsite owners about why people have not turned up , especially if it's just because the weatherman has said it's going to rain all weekend, people could at least get in touch and let people know

Sorry ! iv'e finished now , what are your comments ??????????-

Hello everyone!!

I am new to this site and quite new to camping!! I'm a single mum with an 8 yr old son and last year was the first time we went camping!! - i was very worried and nervous about being on my own in a tent with my son! - but we had the best time ever just a great holiday in Bamburgh Northumberland.

I stumbled accross this site and your meets and the one that Glynn-58 is arranging this Easter 2006 and i was thinking this might be a good thing for us to do to get to meet more people and build camping confidence!?   Are there many single parents on these meetings or is it all families??  Would it matter if i came on my own with my son??  And what do you do on the meetings??  Do you spend all day together or meet up sometime in the day??

I'd love to hear from anyone in the know!!

Many thanks.

Hi and welcome to UKCS - I'd definitely recommend going on a few meets to gain more confidence whilst camping, and the Easter meet at Skirlington looks like it'll be a good one.

I do have a feeling that it's full though, but you could always register and go on the reserve list in case people drop out (which is quite likely). There are usually all sorts of people that go on meets, some families, some single parents, some single people and occasionally couples with no children (otherwise known as lucky buggers ).

I'm still not sure whether my OH is going to come to the Easter meet, so it may just be me, my bump and my 9 year old daughter - I've already arranged to get some of the men to put my tent up for me when we arrive because of my condition, and I know that they'll help anybody willingly.

Have a look at some of the pictures of previous meets to get more of an idea about what happens, but we tend to mostly do our own thing during the day and then meet up for barbeques and drinks in the evening. Usually there's stuff organised for the kids and a raffle or quiz to raise money either for prizes or drinks.

I hope this helps, and you do decide to join us.

Congrats to all u people who have booked ur first meet - i know u wont regret it. Apprehension is a big thing (after all ur going away with a load of people u dont really know) but once u arrive all ur worries will dissapear. Mazagirl, were going to Skirlington and yeah theres loads of different people who go. U wont see ur little lad for the whole time - obviously at bed time will be the only time, all the kids seem to get on well with each other leaving time for you to enjoy yourself. A meet is a great way to get to know people and relax without worrying about what ur off spring is getting up to.

As i say - dip ur toe u never know until u try. So glad i was pursuaded last yr what a great time and cant wait until easter!!!!!!
