As Mrs Bonce said, there is usually a digital display that tells you when to top up and the maximum number of miles you can do before topping up.

Hi,
When we had the VW T6 we were told to top up the add blue as per the digital display ( within mileage limits) or we could cause damage🤷🏻‍♀️so we did.

We had a Bailey Approach 79-4I based on the Boxer chassis and our current Dethleffs Trend is on the FIAT chassis made in the same plant.

There's a warning light that will come up on the dashboard display it's hard to describe but it looks like a gust of wind blowing through a cloud, when it comes on orange it's time to top up, my understanding is that when it comes on red the engine won't start until you've added some ad-blue.

It's hard to say how many miles between top-ups because it really depends upon how you drive, hard acceleration for instance will use more.

As pointed out. Wait until warning light comes on. You then have 1500 miles to top up. Top up minimum 10 litres. I was advised by my Citroen dealer workshop that you should top up with min 10 litres or warning light may stay on.

Cheapest I have found is Home Bargains £4.99 for 5 litre can which includes pouring spout. So buy 2 of them.

I did a search of the maker of the Home Bargains stuff & it’s ok. A large multinational manufacturer.


Otherwise average price for 10 litre can is £14.99. Or pump price on forecourts is £1.50/litre.

Easiest I find is the 2 of 5 litre cans. A 10 litre can is a bit heavy to lift.

Billy makes a good point about the price and the size of the containers, another thing I'd recommend is that you make sure the pouring spout vents (it will have a narrow pipe built into the pouring spout, it helps the ad-blue flow more easily and the whole thing less messy (as I found out on our trip to France earlier in the year, having forgotten to top up before we left, the pesky light came on and I had to buy some from the nearby LeClerc. It had a non-venting pouring spout and I lost a fair bit due to blow backs).

It will probably state "low urea" on your digital display, posh name for ad blu I suppose.

The top up intervals between engines varies enormously and dealers will tell you that this is due to driving style which I believe is a load of dealer tosh!.
Caravan on or off, heavy or light traffic nothing seems to make any difference you either have a heavy user or not it just seems to be the set up that counts.
At the moment our current Ateca uses hardly any but the previous one used to gulp it down and I don't think that my "driving style" has changed much, it just seems to be pot luck.
Most cars give plenty of warning and some even count down the remaining milage before top ups are desperate

ALL AdBlue is made to the exact same specification, so all you need to do is find the cheapest.

I have a watering can with very small bore spout that I use, just decant from a 10ltr drum.
I find it much easier than the supplied pouring spout.

A couple of months ago I bought a Peugeot 508 sw diesel. I did have management light came on. I took it a friend of mine that owns a repair garage. The fault code came up, pdf fluid low. Apparently there's a tank under the car that has be filled with this fluid stuff. The tank has to be taken off to refill it. He did it, £200. The good thing about it that it lasts for 75,000 miles. Weird.

It's DPF fluid, and nothing to do with AdBlue.

That really seems unnecessarily complicated, good job it lasts for 75,000 miles at that price/effort. I wonder how much a main dealer would charge for that?

I just wait until light comes on and put in full 10 litres or until full,don't panic you have several miles before any damage to engine,hope that helps.Rob
