No idea why, but only just seen this post AND the news!
First expectation on the text from the OP was they were driving and in the cab, so protected by steel shell and seat belts - how wrong can you be! To survive, and thankfully the dogs too, the total destruction of the living quarters from toppling down a hill when parked is nothing short of miraculous!
Sadly over the years seen a few caravans that have 'ricocheted' off Armco and ended up in ditches when travelling, so the extent of damage is no surprise. Makes your blood run cold that people, especially children often travel in the back of MH's - no protection at all!
I've certainly sat in my caravan when pitched and wondered at what point does the wind actually blow it over! And been vigilant about weather forecasts when proposing travel, but that's more with a view to induced snaking than being blown clean off the road!
You've got to have respect for extreme weather! Glad they were relatively unscathed.
Been told (by a caravanning Scotsman no less! - one of the wardens of my storage site) 'I really should do the 500', but having looked at it, decided it's definitely NOT for a large caravan, of even a larger MH, maybe a campervan, but that image just says maybe not at all!
