I have recently separated from my wife and renting a room. However i am looking at buying a motorhome to use for a couple of years while i get back on my feet rather than paying dead rent money. What is the advised minimum amount i would need to purchase a motorhome to work remotely from and live in 24-7. I have an 8 year old who would also stay when she is free 10-12 times a month etc. I also have a dog. Looking at a 4 berth, what are the best models for reliability and have good cabin designs, also is it easy to add solar panels and what add on's would people suggest that i may not have thought of. Will be urban parking but i have gym membership also. I am completely new to this so have no idea at all. Models and Motorhomes to avoid would also be appreciated. Major issues i need to check prior to buying etc. Would a dealer be the best option, private etc etc.
Sorry to hear about your marriage breakdown. I'm on my 5th one. Each breakdown is hard. Sorry but I can't help with your motorhome search but there's folks on here that can. Best of luck.
Calla1977. This is a very long piece of string question / multiple questions, try browsing the forum for individual answers while you’re having a cup of coffee.
Several people on here live the “van life”, you can read their posts. There are costs associated with having a MH as your only vehicle & place to live, some of that is “dead money” too. Check insurance. You can’t park up on a residential street (I assume that’s “urban parking”?) to live permanently. You have to dispose of chemical toilet waste in a legal way, sewage can’t go down the nearest road gully. Check local campsites (the site search here is useful).
I’m saying nothing about costs or layouts or models, as we only have 2 berths. A PVC (panel van conversion or campervan) will go under car park gantries, but 4 berths is a squeeze.
A car & small caravan on a seasonal pitch might be a more flexible arrangement.
Good luck.
I think the biggest obstacle will be insurance. No fixed address and a overnight storage address. Also and address for registering with DVLA. You cannot just sleep in it anywhere on the public highway. Where would you fill up with water and also empty waste tank and chemical toilet. As said be better with a caravan and find a site that will let you stay all year.

Thanks. I am still currently registered at my home address. Joint mortgage but can’t live there for the next 11 months. Will be picking my little girl up from close to the house and all my mail is still registered there. As for packages etc I was going to use drop boxes etc. lockers.
