Hi.
I have a Toyota Alphard campervan with propex gas heating.
I also wonder if whilst on hook up instead of using my gas on sites if it's safe to use a morphyrichards plug heater 500 w ?...saving my gas for off grid.
We always did that (oil filled radiator) because our gas fire didn’t work.
I’m not an electrician, so I might be wrong, but I only use one “heating up” thing at once to avoid popping the EHU on older sites & making myself unpopular. Hair dryer only, not at the same time as the kettle or toaster - or heater.
Our caravan has a fitted gas heater but when we are on site and paying through the nose for electricity, we use an electric convector heater. It's safe to leave on all night, and it's silent unlike a fan heater. They are quite cheap to buy too. Obviously you have to watch the consumption, particularly on sites that have a low limit, but a 1kw heater only uses about 4 to 5 amps.
We have blown air LPG heating in our van that is used when off grid. It is presently below freezing here and as we are on EHU we are grateful of our small oil filled radiator that has been on all night, it's a pleasant 19 oC in van. Just check the amps and you may have to switch it off when boilng kettle.
