Hi,

I did the rent-a-RV thing in the States a few years ago and had an absolutely brilliant time with my son (then age 9). My only bother was that having set-up and cooked dinner etc, if you need to go anywhere unless its walking distance you have to de-camp the whole lot again before you drive off. This may not be so much of a pain in Europe as things are not so spread out. If I were to do the RV thing in Europe I would definately take a bicycle too so I can nip to the nearest shops/offy (or send the son who is now old enough to buy a decent beer)

PS: I'm insanely jealous. Have a wonderful time!

hi i have a folding camper and have never got the hang of reversing so always have the fear of getting lost and not being able to turn round we have had a few good trips in camper and love it apart from when u have to put it away when u have awning up as well the space is hugh but this then means the kids can spread all there gear that has to be put away. it does have alot of storage space and takes under 20 mins to put tent up awning a bit longer we are going to buy a motorhome although i am scared of driving it still think will be easier than trying to reverse when towing funny how men can just get in and drive anything   am envious of your trip sounds great have fun

We have recently changed from a TT to a small campervan and would never go back. We loved our conway TT (well folding camper, as you could put it up without the awning) for the space, but it really was a pain to pack away in the rain, and a hassle to keep unloading clothes, food etc into the tent every time you re-pitch.

Personally I would never have a caravan as I would not be confident towing it, but at least with a motorhome you get the benefits of the storage and easy pitching of a caravan.

With 2 young kids, it would be ideal to have a motorhome where you can have everything stored in cupboards but easily accessed. If you are touring Europe silly things like having access to a fridge and cold drinks whilst travelling makes life easier and keeps costs down as well.

Worth considering as well is an awning. We have a small campervan with a Khyam awning that is quick to erect (about 10mins easily) so you can spread out if you are staying for longer, or if the weather is bad you are not on top of each other.
