My little romahome does quite a bit to the gallon, never worked it out properly but £20 worth of petrol gets me a good way!

I jotted down the last four digits at 3296 before I put in £26.00 of petrol and jotted down the fig next time I stopped for petrol and it was 3495 (just going into reserve at this point), so if my figs are correct I did 199 miles on £26 quid! I don't know how that works out into MPG though. And heavily (very) laden at that.

I agree that they are small though - 975cc engine and don't go very fast either. Plus side, costs no more than a car on the ferry, or in insurance or tax. I'm only 5ft tall though and I feel like my knees are touching my elbows when driving!

Our Romahome does between 40-50 mpg, am a bit vague because we have not checked it absolutely accurately. It is small but perfectly formed and has just about everything we need including one large double or two single beds, loo, basin, two ring hob, grill, storage in Luton etc etc.

Ours is a 2 ltr turbo diesel and goes like a dream.

On a 2000 mile trip around France last year in our 2002 LWB High top (panel van conversion) 2.4 Turbo Diesel Transit , we averaged 31 mpg.

My Romahome Dimension is based on the new Citroen Relay van, so is somewhat bigger and heavier than most Romahomes.   Currently doing 31mpg overall. Engine is 2.2l 100bhp turbo diesel.

Hi' all,

My Laika was giving 29 mpg with a 2.5 Lt on mixed driving but I would like to do a better test as it sounds to good.

This is better than some van conversions even as i have a mh of 3100 Kgs.

I have a Honda acty romahome with a 550 baby engine and I think I get over 40 to the gallon, cheap tax too and it will go 55-60 no bother!! :)

We have just returned from a 2000 mile trip around mainland Europe in our ih Motor Campers Oregon Re.  This has the new Renault 2.5 turbo diesel common rail engine and the loaded weight is 3.5 tonnes.  We towed a trailer (weight 750kg) and according to the onboard computer we averaged 35.6 mpg.

Absolutely delighted!!!

Another Romahome Dimension owner here and we get around 30-32 mpg depending on how I drive.

Our Romahome Outlook (Citroen Berlingo base) does 40+ on a regular basis unless you push it right to the legal limit on the Motorway then it drops to 40.  I keep a regular check on the fuel consumption.

This is excellent for this engine as VW's figures quote a combined fuel comsumption of 34mpg - and these don't normally translate in to the 'real world' of driving.

What Van long term test of the 2.5TDI in a van gave 27-28mpg

I can assure you this is correct. I take the litres, divide by 4,55 and divide the resultant gallons into the miles (logged on a computer since new) It is a bit hit and miss over short periods as the fuel tank is never run low, but it is accurate over longer periods. I do have a light right foot and tend to cruise with economy in mind, but I have made no deduction for the Eberspacher heater, which I use sometimes, and which uses diesel from the fuel tank

our 2.4 T4 Autosleeper Trident (- that's high topped)managed 35 mpg coming back from the Lakes - cruising at 65 -70 mph

Pilote G780FGJ (8m double rear axle) with a good tail wiond then 22mpg, otherwise around 19/20. But that is motoring - definatly not a light foot.
