Out of interest, I looked at the routes taken by other cyclists. One route seemed pretty good - basically from J O'G down the East coast to Dornoch (nice village), then through Beauly to avoid Inverness, alongside Caledonian Canal to Fort William and down the west coast as far as Claonaig.
Then a cunning move that avoids Glasgow. Take the ferry to Arran and leave again via Brodick to Ardrossan. From there, go inland to join the A76 and travel south past Dumfries to Carlisle.
The route then follows the A6 south and hugs the England / Wales border before crossing the Severn at Bristol.... etc.
------------- Two drifters off to see the world.
I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.
