I may be stating the obvious but Loch Lomond is only any use if you book onto one of the camp sites as wild camping is now banned there. If this is the first time you have driven a motorhome I would stay on a site near to where you pick it up and then drive the next day. Will the hire place let you stay there overnight? You could always take it out for a wee spin and get food at a local supermarket then bring it back and have your first night in it. That way you could be up and off early in the morning. Driving a strange vehicle in a strange place when you are tired isn't a good start to the holiday.
I also saw that someone said bring Skin so Soft for the East Coast - use it all the time - the midges are little beasts across pretty much all of Scotland in this warm moist weather.
Scotland is beautiful - enjoy!

To be honest I would skip the Lanark stop off and get past Glasgow for the first nights stop.

We've driven from Devon to Glasgow in one day before (with stop off breaks for dogs at services) in 6 (ish) hours.  So you could easily achieve the same if not quicker from Reading.

You could then make your first night's stop in the Luss/Loch Lomond area (or further on if you're feeling ok) and squeeze and extra night in somewhere else if required.  We always stop off at Ballachulish (Glencoe) on our way to Skye for few hours, it's a lovely village right by the loch with tourist information centre, cafe, plenty of parking and picnic area.

Pick up the motorhome and head up to Loch Lomond and the village of Balloch just over an hours drive. Balloch is 1 min off the A82 . Lots of motorhomes stay over in our car park in the middle of the village. There no problem with this at all. I see them every morning when I walk the dogs. The village has absolutely everything you could want. You could maybe do a loch cruise whilst your here. There is a caravan site in the village called Lomond Woods

Next stop Glencoe

I recommend Inverco camp site. Absolutely beautiful right on the banks of the Loch. Hotel is only 5 mins walk away and the food is good.the village of Ballachulish is 5 mins away and there is a really nice walk up to the top of the hill. Theres a co-op for any shopping you might need

http://www.invercoe.co.uk/index.php?id=21

Next stop CC site or the CCC at Fortrose. Dolphins galore

Then onto Findochty (Prounounced Fin ECK ty) Again I recommend this site. Lovely site right on the Moray shoreline. Food at the hotel is fantastic. I recommend the hot smoked salmon and prawn cocktail Mmmmmmmmm I can still taste it.

Then start heading south via Aberdeen and the east coast

Next stop

Stonehaven (Queen Elizabeth caravan park)

Then down to Edinburgh

I tow a caravan that's over 7mtrs and the roads are absolutely fine. I have done the route I've recommended to you so I speak from experience.

I hope you have a fantastic time in Scotland

Brilliant schedule, I live in Balloch and come from Aberdeen so can vouch for those two stops!

All the suggestions are worth noting as all provide fantastic scenery.

We are doing a similar run mid August starting with 3 days in Arasaig then heading up by Loch Ness to Nairn and the Black Isle. After that we will just see where the mood takes us.The one major advantage of a motorhome.

I'm off in September for the first time for 10 days (provided my s0dding car is actually working by then). I'm picking up a friend from Huntingdon, then going up to Northumberland for 2 nights. Then we are heading on up to Inverness / Cairngorm area, stopping there for 3 nights.   Then onto Glencoe for 3 / 4 nights. Then start heading back to Huntingdon to drop my mate off, stopping a night in the Yorkshire Dales en route. All this in a tent. I really do wish I had a camper van for this trip, it's going to be a pain constantly packing and unpacking.

Quite a bit of shifting around but I intend on this being a whistlestop tour so I can start to decide which bit of Scotland I like the most. Isle of Skye and Outer Hebrides will probably be a seperate trip.

Scotland in a week is unrealistic you might see a bit of one county !!

We've just been in Scotland and it took a week just to touch the surface !!!!!!!

Maybe you need to do more research into what you waht to do/see/find.

The west coast is and central route through the loch and highland area is something you must do.

East coast is nice but true to say the views are different.

It really depends what you want to find it's all there to discover,
