Yes 'Dragon Campers' we are looking forward to a short trip away.
Sadly, my father died a couple of weeks ago, after an 8 year battle with Alzheimer's and renal cancer. My wife and I have been caring for him at home for a long time now, and holidays have been scarce recently.
We'll have a couple of weekend breaks, but as you can imagine, camping isn't really on our minds at the moment.
I had been planning on getting a van from Germany, so needed my passport renewed, which took a while. Then I decided that i may be hiring a car in Germany, so opted to get my old drivers licence converted to a new photo type one, which also took quite a wee while.
Luckily (or maybe not) I spotted one in the Uk, which I'll be collecting next week.
Just wish dad could have enjoyed it, but that's not to be. He suddenly went downhill very quickly, from the end of June, when he suddenly stopped eating and drinking. I've been told the Alzheimer's had probably 'eaten away' the section of his brain which controlled this process.
He used to be a scout master, so as a family, we camped, which was the reason I did too, with my own family.
My wife just thinks she's too old for camping now, hence the van. I am pleased too of course.
Maybe next year, we'll be on the roadside watching the Tour de France on one of those steep mountain stages .. I'll be the one in the black 'n white 'mankini' obviously supporting my football team.
