thats fine if you are going for a few weeks , but after that you would need another truck for the clothes , but i suppose it would be fine for some , i see lots going to the wash block carrying a towel , and coming back with there soiled clothes on , whats the point of washing if you are going to put dirty clothes back on

Forgot to mention, after I have soaked the clothes in "small and mighty" and "vanish" in the shower tray, then I get in the shower and "tread" the clothes as if I am going to make wine out of them (doesn't taste very nice). Seems to work well.

I must be a right scruffy barsteward....ive been known to wear the same pair of shorts three days in a row. As for my cap........

On a serious note. Its all well and good being able to fit some of these mod-cons into a van...wether it takes you over the legal weight is another matter.

Whatever happened to handwashing?

If you're abroad on a site look out for those funny shaped sinks with extended drainers and the nearby drying lines. In the UK most decent sites have deep hand washing sinks but little in the way of drying lines, instead preferring to charge for drying in machines.

The other option if you need to wash bedding etc is a launderette. They do still exist in most places.

:)

Of course it does dear.

For most people handwashing or using machines on site are the viable alternatives. Don't waste money on buying so called specialist machines until you have to wash some clothes for a month or so. :)

We go away for 5 or more weeks at a time, my method works perfectly well. If we went away for longer then we would find a laundrette.

We bought one of those portable twintubs, tried it out at home, a bit messy but thought as we were going away for a month could stand it outside the M/H, the problem was where do we put it while travelling.  As we have an A/S  Executive didn't want to travel with it in the shower as it was quite awkwad to move everyday, so hought maybe in the overhead locker over the cab, thought it could go at the back and just need to get it out a couple of time, but as we lifted it up there was still a bit of water in the bottom and decided that this wasn't an option so left it at home.  So it was handwashing , we found a couple of sites in Norway/Denmark that has a free spindrier so no dripping washing!!

You can also try this idea: Get a plastic drum - like this one -  with a tight sealing lid that clamps down or has a very seal. Fill it two thirds full with water and add your fave detergent. Then add 12 golf balls. Drive to destination and then rinse the items in fresh water. Sounds crazy but it does work

i think you have a good cross section of replies but just add, we bought the small blue twin tub, -camp shop- brilliant, travelled around up to fout months, and it did all our wash with no problems, even good size towels and sheets,, quilt covers, smalls, trousers, shorts etc, cost us £70, and worth every penny, we only sold it because we hardly used it, even our smalls we did by hand, things just dont get dirty in the sun.

i notice a few long termers on this site, can anyone recommend a good cheap campsite for long term? i have put this question on another site?

I use the soaking method. Bucket, add acdo soap powder or tablet, fill with hottish water, chuck stuff in, leave overnight. A quick rub through next day and rinse.

Often use the deep sinks on sites if handy. If I was away as long as some though, I'd definately think about having a washing machine of some sort, if I could fit it into the van!

Mrs Bonce I use your method for washing my lovely feather duvet once a year - in the bath! A few rinses, pull up to the end to drain overnight and onto the washing line.

I would be tempted by one of these can't find a UK site that sells them though, but I'm sure I've seen them somewhere.

have you tried on ebay. they used to be in all the camping shops awhile ago. .the handles used to break off that was the trouble .but you could still turn it by hand.

i only gave 15quid for my electric washer . but using solar and inverter it works fine.mind having seen how the twintubs work if this one goes wrong i want one of them. the spinners are magic. i,m sure someone will come up with where to get the ones you want . think towsure used to do them.
