Dear Fireblade Phil & Sam,
Why is it that I feel just as anxious about you picking up your Motorhome? Maybe because I can still remeber that gasping feeling at the back of my throat when I first drove my "Freebird" as an Owner?
Phil, I know you'll be gasping for air and probably will sleep in it tonight... as far as the weather and Sam will allow for. On the other hand, Sam may even beat you to it! (LOL)As far as you choise of naming you Hymer "Henry": It could come in handy when, in a couple of years, you trade in for another one. Could be "Henry the Second".
I wish you many singing miles on the road, lots of secluded places to find (share them if you do, please!) and all the other pleasures a Motorhome will bring you.
Nice to hear that you've started a course in German, I live very close to their border (5 Miles / 9 kilometers) so I also speak German. You're right about reading other words than their pronounciation, a "Y" sound like a "U" as in "Tube", and then the "Ringel S" of course that looks like a letter from the Greek alphabet. Nice to hear you're playing rock guitar. If you can play "Stairways to Heaven" or th odd "White Knuckles" by Gary Moore, you're welcome to play in our band! Since you have a motorhome, your staying over won't cost us a penny (once a Dutchman, always a Dutchman, eh?)
I expect no reply for the next 48 hours (24 hours of first time enjoyment of Henry I, 24 hours recoupering and chanting: "I still can't believe it, Sam. It's really ours") So, Enjoy! You allready know hopw to. After all, you bought a motorhome!
As for us, we've booked our ferrie from IJmuiden to Newcastle in June, so we're defenitly going to anywhere between Land's End and John O' Groats. The world's my oister, and Great Britain still my pearl!
I'll see you on the road, somewhere.
Cheers!
Jorad

Picked Henry up from the dealers http://www.ultraleisure.co.uk yesterday, and I was really pleased with how easy he is to drive. Left-hand drive caused no problems at all (all that worrying about nothing...lol). We went to the Lake District about 4:30 in the afternoon, and wild camped at the edge of Grizedale Forest next to Coniston Water. I believe there are signs there saying 'no overnight stays' but it was dark when we arrived, so we, er, didn't see them...ahem. It's funny really because we didn't see them last time we stayed there either, in the back of my company van with nothing more than a camp-lamp, airbed and sleeping back...lol.
Anyway, everything worked brilliantly and the Trumatic heater had us melting in minutes, despite the temperature dropping to about -3C outside. We did the usual 'cup of tea first' routine, then gazed at the stars in a crystal clear sky before running back inside to get warm again . Winter camping is a blast.
Can't wait to do it again next week
Before I forget...... I'd like to post some internal pictures on here, as requested by Dot, but do not have a website to put them on. Any suggestions?

Welcome back Phil & Sam,
Great to hear you had a good weekend and it's all working well. Judy and I have been to the lake district in 2003 (camped on a site adjacent the Natural Heritage Parc at Wallthwaite) No luxuries, no hook-ups, in fact, no campers, but we had a whale of a time hunting midges the size of elephants! That'll teach us to go pitch up next to a brook in July/August !
The surroundings were stunning though as we drove round lake Windermere and up the mountains. Lovely views! Last year we went to Northumberland and since it was our first (well-earned!!!) hols since my stroke, we also had a great time. We stayed over in Bellingham on Demesne farm, less midges and a lovely small farmsite. Has hookups too. As for your question about the pictures. Why don't you upload them to your image gallery? Make sure the format isn't bigger than 200 K though, otherwise you won't be able to upload.
BTW. Did you sleep in the overhead or did you convert the diner? How did you experience that?
Bye for now,
John.

Hi again,
Used the over-cab on this occasion, though will probably use the diner conversion in future due to middle of the night toilet requirements , the worst one being when Sam needed to go and had to try to climb over me...lol... not much room up there.
One of my work colleagues lives near Bellingham, not far from Keilder Forest. We intend to go camping up there sometime. Will look out for Demesne Farm.
Good idea about the image gallery, I didn't think of that (duh) my mind is still in the Lake District
Oh well, only five more work days until the next trip.
Phil

Hwel Dot!
I've read you had a bit of trouble with the leisure batterie but wasn't it covered by warranty? Is there anything I can help you with?
BTW: "nervous , but looking forward..."spells "Anxious to go!" in my dictionary, as for the unknown, we're just waiting for you to lead the way and inform us. So please, venture for the unknown and follow your heart. When in doubt, contact the UKCS. Even though a Dutchman, I find this UKCS site much more cooperative than its Dutch equivalent, mind...
Cheers,
John
