For the vast majority of motorhome owners that extra £250 will be easily afforded which would suggests that the rise in diesel cost is not that much of an issue.

Mine is now full of diesel thanks to 15p off per litre at morrisons offer last week.

I'm a tenter. I think there will continue to be a market for m/homes but manufacturers may find themselves having to source more fuel efficient engines and look at lighter weight materials to keep up (and indeed may well be forced to do the former by legislation). However that will up the purchase price for a motorhome and it might make folks think.

The diesel issue imho is going to depend very much on the individual's budget; most of us are having to cut back and many may have mortgage/job worries, so maybe looking at staying closer to home rather than take long trips.  That is going to be good for some areas and very lean for others.  I think it'll put some m/homers off, especially those that like wandering around to remote places, but not others.

I would ask the motorhome producers where are the really economical engines which we can now find in some manufacturer's vehicles? Where is the use of lighter materials? ( the older Sprite Musketeers were much much lighter than todays caravans! and the same could apply to motorhome via furniture, bed frames etc etc.) Frontal area is critical so keep it low profile. For goodness it's not rocket science. I could design better myself. Perhaps I will......................................

 From Scotsbob,  We have a 2:2 lt Peugeot Elddis Sunseeker, and have just come back from nearly 3 weeks away travelling from Aberdeen to W Sussex and back.  Covered 1297 mls averaged 33.7 mls to the gallon.  Dearest diesel bought was at 154.9 lt at a m/way services - only put in enough to get me up to 1/2 tank till we got to a supermarket for lower price, although prices in places were roundabout 1.41 -1.43 lt.  As ur van is 11 yrs and still in good nick and running well why change it for something you dont know the history of  " better the devil you know than the devil you dont."

Just keep watching out for those supermarket deals.

We always tank up on 5p-15p off offers.
