.... We all know that High Street Shops are struggling and councils should be aware that they could help income to the town/city if they removed height barriers, and allowed M/H parking for a fee...

Personally,I think Park&Rides would be  the best all round compromise..

Putting aside the, sometimes, irrational fear of "travellers",I think the one problem that some councils/residents/businesses have with "town centre/sea-front" type MH parking is that, even when it does exist,it isn't long before it ends up getting abused to some degree..

I'm sure we've all witnessed MHs in carparks, with their drain taps pouring waste water down the road or folk who have/are obviously "over-nighting" in their vans etc...!?

..and I think we do need to be honest about how much money the average MHer/campervaner is actually likely to spend in a town/resort......

..most that I've witnessed parked up on sea-fronts or in prime sited carparks, seem quite happy to sit in their vans, looking out at the view, whilst consuming their own onboard  food and drink..

And if I was a local cafe'/restaurant owner, paying god knows what in business rates etc,I'd be none to pleased with that scenario...

If they really wanted to put money into the town's/resort's economy, then they would've booked in at a local campsite,walk/bus in for the day and use the local shops/cafe's etc....

There was a discussion running on another forum, concerning Scarborourgh(I think?)It appeares that they have(had?)good MH parking but because MHers have been doing as I've described above, the council are now looking to "ban" them...and of cause, all the Mhers on the other forum were up in arms.."..they don't want our money..rant rant.."

As for "a list"..well,I think the best approach is to research and compile one that suits you..and then,to avoid the risk of it getting "spoilt" by others, keep damned quiet about it!

Joy of Joys. I have just discovered that www.motorhomeparking.co.uk has a set of POIs that you can download to your MS Autoroute, Memory Map or SatNav device and as you approach a place/town you can clearly see all the recorded motorhome-friendly parking places!!!

Another useful site. parkopedia.co.uk will show you not just all the council parking sites in a town but those of the big stores as well.
So if you are looking to park for a couple of hours and need food or booze then select a store. B&Q probably have larger spaces for workmen with large vans but I dont often need to buy something!
And then the clever bit, select your car park then click on satellite view and you can see exactly where in the car park are larger spaces. Choose your space in advance!

Just had a look at my local shopping town on parkopedia to check height restriction on the newly altered parking area.

Unfortunately it showed the area before alterations with lots of open parking and no height restriction. So be aware that street view may not be totally upto date. this area is not a tourist area so unlikely to cause much of a problem to motorhomers.

Sometimes a little rain must fall before you reach a rainbow.

The work will wait while you show the child the rainbow, but the rainbow won't wait while you finish the work.
